I am having great fun finding out what Linux can do, thanks old chap. It works like a dream, one oddity though. When using Linux on the old PC two keys change function, the @ key produces " and the " key produces @. When using the same keyboard, a wireless Logitech, with my laptop running Windows they produce as they should, @ key gives @, " gives ", weird. I don't like the laptop keyboard hence the Logitech one, it's bigger, easier for me to use and has more functions. something my 80 year old eyes and fingers appreciate. Once again, thanks.
ОтветитьThat was excellent. You do it well. I've made the USB as per your instrutions, I shall now try installing it on an old PC, I'll let you know how it goes.
ОтветитьYou can now buy a set of pre-installed linux distros for like 15.00 dollars
ОтветитьYou can also use gparted
ОтветитьThanks to your videos I FINALLY made the step and swithed to Linux Mint :) Just as I got everythign set up and all updates in place, I cannot seem to make a snapshot? Says Boot file has 0 space left. Any quik fixes to this?
ОтветитьIs this exclusive to flash drives? or will this work on a USB HDD?
ОтветитьThe old pendrive software to boot 🥾 Linux hahaha 😝
ОтветитьThe penguins 🐧 on a pendrive 🖊
Quack!
I am struggling with re-booting a PC after the installation to HD, the secure boot/legacy is disabled. Am I doing something not right?
ОтветитьWhen I open the Universal-USB Installer it doesn't see my linux mint iso file. Is there a way to fix this?
Ответитьyou could also completely install the os on the flash, so you won't change the hard drive and just run it 100% on the flash!
ОтветитьAm I able to save files onto the same USB drive in order to access them while in Linux? I'm trying to make it "portable" for use on any computer I switch to without much trouble
ОтветитьIve got a 64 bit computer.......I bet you haven't. None of you.
ОтветитьThanks. I follow this every time I use Linux mint. The only issue is that my wifi doesnt work, I have to wire my laptop to use Internet.
ОтветитьHi Christopher. I think you're the most clear PC help channel, by far. I have an unusual request.
How can I/we/you break through the SurfaceRT BIOS lock? My RT runs 8.1, yet is locked to the Win 8 store-- which has nothing.
How can I unlock this perfectly-working tablet to install Mint? M$ doesn't want to know it.
PS: 8.1 is supported for years yet, but M$ won't unlock AND won't support! Please help!?
Thanx for the great video. I followed you instructions and have gotten Ubuntu work on an old 8Gig USB 2 drive. However as this was slow I tried to do this to a USB 3 external 700 Gig hard disk from and old laptop. I run up UUI and it seems to do the setup ok but I suspect it's not doing all of it however when I try to boot from the drive it just sits there with Loading OS. Is it possible to do this to an external USB hard disk or does it only work with an external USB flash drive.
Thanx in advance.
Thank you after all these years, worked perfectly on my old HP laptop...
ОтветитьThank you , for the video it really helped me .
ОтветитьI followed step by step, but was unsuccessful.. first off it didn't just boot up on it'd own, so then I went to bios and selected the removable drive at which point it showed the OS but could not boot successfully for some reason. 😪
Ответитьwhen my drive is plugged in, it doesn't boot straight into Linux, what shall I do?
ОтветитьThis is a very useful video i just used a refresher course on booting to Linux via USB. it would be interesting to see how much Linux has advanced to now in 2021. i wonder if it easier to make the switch from Windows to Linux now? Windows has gotten even more irritating with its forced updating so using a controllable OS would be nice. Thanks for keeping this convenient on your web site.
ОтветитьIt’s very interesting seeing your first interaction with Mint knowing how much you like it now. I have it on my dual boot because I like its Grub menu. Also, although I don’t usually like excessive amounts of programs, it’s very useful when the WiFi isn’t the best in cottages in Scotland land Wales.
ОтветитьWhat they call D I S T R O S
Ответитьcool linux!
ОтветитьMy satellite internet....ill just pick this video back up in 3 hours.....4 hours....gotta let this 2gb(mint 20.2) download.....
ОтветитьThis is a live session installation(linux trial) and any program you download on to the session wount be there after a reboot... That's why on the desktop if you zoom in you will see "install linux"
ОтветитьThis guy gives me Bob Ross vibes idk why.
ОтветитьWas the USB Installer setup downloaded onto the usb or Cdrive?
ОтветитьIs that dual boot?
Ответитьis it a live installation or what
ОтветитьThis is a kinda silly question but I wanted to know if any Linux files will be put on the host machine? I'm kinda tight on space so I wanted to know if there are any files that will be stored on the host machine
ОтветитьWow! Fourth video I watched and the only one that helped! Thank you! Thank you!
ОтветитьChris -
Thanks for the excellent tutorials. I have been warned by Leo LaPorte that many major brand laptops will not allow Linux distros and some will not accommodate duel booting. I want to buy a new Acer Aspire but only if I can wipeout Windows and replace with Mint. Any suggestions?
What is the other name for Linux Mint - Sinom??? Please clarify. Anyone. Thanks.
Ответитьbrilliant way to test linux, but the problem is that it doesn't persist software if we install something on linux.
ОтветитьIt's sad, because a week ago I decided to switch to linux, tried a few flavors, from ubuntu, ubuntu mate, to mint and mint mate. I liked Ubuntu mate a lot, but generally speaking I wouldn't be able to keep doing my work without some essential softwares that even wine wouldn't be able to run sadly. If only developpers started supporting linux more.
ОтветитьAfter I enter linux using usb bootable, i cant connect to wifi :(
ОтветитьVery clear, thanks, it might have been a good idea to mention that the BIOS/Boot sequence of older PC/Laptops may need to be changed to prioritize the USB drive as well.
I followed the instructions and changed the BIOS on an old Optiplex 520. But the files on the pen drive don't seem to be configured correctly as they won't "run" at bootup. I'll try building the pen drive again.
just wanna chime in and say that i'm still using windows 7 and it's still the best
ОтветитьVery good. I have run Linux for years now and recently did exactly the same as you. I am over the pond in Canada. For some reason when I click the odd icon on the screen it crashes the video. I have to turn off the computer and then boot up again. I have no idea why that is.
ОтветитьLove Linux Mint! Had it for four years now. And Libre Office does anything that Microbloat can do.
ОтветитьHi there! I have downloaded the linux 32 bit copy on 64 bit machine . So can I install it from 64 bit machine or do I need to first put it on 32 bit machine. Please revert. Thanks for your quality content.
ОтветитьThank you for a step by step process, love your work
ОтветитьOnce i did the pendrive, how can i switch from Windows to Linux?
ОтветитьCan you do this from Windows 10? Or is it better to do from win7 for some reason, or is it that you just have 7 and refused to upgrade to 10?? I still have 7 and had to do a factory reset because something happened with the last update and I haven't used the comp since, which was in February
ОтветитьAnd I Am Watching This In 2020...
Ответить@ExplaningComputers Can you help me to install linux well i know how to but my old laptop its running Windows 7 i have an ASUS K53TA i cant get any distros to work i tried Rufus And UUI
ОтветитьAfter installing windows 10 on my computer, i kinda appreciate these not virus oses
