For the whole alien number scenario, I'd propose a couple others.

First would be 118 as the atomic number of Oganesson. It completes the periodic table to the extent that we know of. Even if there might be an island of stability beyond, it's significance as a hard cutoff in terms of what you can make without a significant jump in means still stands.

Alternatively, 26 as the atomic number of iron or 56 being the specific isotope of it. Because of Iron-56 having the lowest nuclear binding energy, it's essentially at the "center" of any and all things radioactive.

It was God's 137th try at building a universe. Up until then, they just didn't work out. As far as the why of this is concerned, that is simply above our pay grade. In all honesty I think that there are some mysteries of physics which we will never solve simply because the number of influencial factors are infinite and not yet discovered and may never be understood. Sometimes the answer why something is is because it works. In a theoritically infinate universe I suppose that nothing else worked.

Nkt a physicist but if i had to take a gander from a comp sci background, tgere should be a few constants that are derived just because everything else is the way it is. We run into this in some analytics we do. Just acurious number that keeps cropping up because everything else uses the same kinda calculations.

Well if this is a Simulation; then there could be a volume dial or dimmer switch in some nerds server room...with the label "Fine Structure Constant. Caution changing this might kill all your Sims!"
If there is a Dimmer Switch to change the Fine Structure Constant; what are the maximum settings for that ratio? Changing this constant would have many effects, but one interesting effect is changing the force of electrons would result in smaller Atoms. Smaller Atoms would increase the attraction between Protons and Electrons Field; this should result in there being more stable Elements for one, and Iron not being the end state for "Energy Profit Fusion in Stars" for another. Well changing the Strong Force would probably be an automatic part of the Fine Structure Constant also; Strong Force becoming actually stronger...would result in more Elements being NOT radioactive for at least one Isotope = combine the two and chemistry would become much more complex if there were say 285 non radioactive elements. If the Fine Structure Constant had a Master Switch, it could also have a 'Mix Board' like DJs have for other variables that also have different settings.
