Jamie: you will probably hate me when reading this message: yo spent one day in Porto; we now spent six years in this gorgeous country and don't intend to go back to northern Europe. My comments: you are so great in sharing the joy of simple and authentic food. But ... how can you drink beer in Portugal? Such simple normal beer when they have some of the best wines of the world, and at extremely attractive prices? With your fish you should have tried a local dry white wine from the Douro valley, at a similar price as a glass of beer., when you are in Porto. Grilling butterfly fish? Never! You ask for a buttterfly cut and cleaned fish at the market, but then you grill it closed, with lots of herbs and spices inside, so that the fish keeps its moisture. Imagine the same fish with fresh rosemary, local garlic and herbs of your taste inside, seven minutes each side !!! Port wine: I fully agree, but try to take some dry cookies and dip them into a port wine. Sandwich: you probably will never again enjoy a fast food hamburger when you tasted the Porto version . You missed to taste a local cozido. And you forgot to mention the prices: on average about five to ten times cheaper than in London. Now your next trip has to be in the Algarve, in the Ria Formosa, make a local boat tour to the different islands and taste the best oysters and clams of Europe, fresh from the producers, and drink white wine from Alentejo. You then enjoy the clean maritime air: Faro has the cleanest air quality in Europe according to the EU, and you will decide to stay for the rest of your life. Bon appetit

Hello, We are retired Americans (I still teach online) traveling through Porto (Feb 22-28) on our way back to Portland, Oregon.
Our journey began in Lviv helping a new school open. We left Ukraine on December 15 for Krakow. Visited Gdansk- beautiful!! We will travel to Tallinn, Estonia staying Jan 30-Feb 20.
From Tallinn, we will fly to Porto. During our stay in Porto, we hope to see the city and maybe begin the Expat move there. Which Airbnb do you recommend? We prefer near the "old town" feel.

I was just in Porto for the first time in July this year, walking the Camino de Santiago and loved it! Amazing place as is all of Portugal.
