Yeah.... that would work if every other Briton were to agree, point for point, with his "definition" of what being British is all about. But they don´t, do they? I daresay outside the hallowed halls of Oxford University, or metropolitan London, few would, point for point. So the entire argument falls flat on its face.

Britain should be maintain its homogenous identity. Multiculturalism is farce. It will make Britain as Lebanon with Islamic religious schools, Christian religious schools all should be banned. Wearing purdah, scarf all should be banned. Treating women in Muslim societies even living in Europe treating them as cattle.

He is laying this out very diplomatically.. one can argue that being "British" or "European" is believing in democracy, freedom of speech, equality for opportunity, equality between genders, a secular state (christianity is stripped for its influence), belief in the scientific endevour, in trade, commerce, and a staunch attitude towards those who are trying to enforce values that break with all of the above. It has been some years since this video was posted, and we have f.ex seen government trying to stifle voices that critique religious fundamentalism, labeling them as racist. The only thing that keeps us from defining this (in the world history) unique mix of universal freedoms as "British" or "European" is the fear of it having a divisive effect. One can truly only see it when it is contrasted against cultures that don't share the same values.

Exactly! Promoting British culture is how you integrate people. You can't integrate by letting cultural enclaves to appear. You can't promote other cultures, which are Anti-West, and then expect these people to integrate.

While i do like Maajid Nawaz i do have to disagree slightly. To be 'British' is nothing like 'American'. The US is a nation of immigrants, supposedly a bastion of equality and equal opportunity for those that wish to work to better their lives, or it is atleast by concept. Being British is Angelo Saxon, christian/pagan based culture with thousands of years of history within its making. Its a nation of islanders that have come together despite a bloody past to represent a force for good. We drink tea and eat crumpets, have a rich history of sport and rampant alcoholism through social interaction in pubs. We have our own unique food, music and literature. We are well mannered and respectful, well educated and innovative. Represented by our monarchy and championed by our unbeatable 'stiff upper lip attitude' We cannot be simply defined by our acceptance of diversity alone. Feeling accepted in Britain is a privilege, but does not make one British.
Being British is not understood or appreciated in today's society. We are losing our culture.
