How to do Video call on WhatsApp Desktop

Can you type while on a video call? my friend speaks Spanish and I speak English.

So i installed WhatsApp on my windows 8 laptop thru google and it’s downloaded and the screen looks like my phone with the contacts but i don’t have the phone icon in right corner. Only the search icon. Is the problem window 8 version? Or is there anything else I can do ? Thks.
