For all those hating on poor Ludwig: he has left us a monument (Castle Neuschwanstein) that will still be standing when all the silly Prussian and Bavarian warlords are long forgotten. Also, he sponsored and encouraged Richard Wagner, thereby rendering an invaluable service to European art music.

Modern Germans always want to feminize the truth. This was not the True Ludwig.

"to prevent war."
how?? by throwing party and art performance, hoping to befriend everyone?

no.

prevent war by having strong deterrence,
combination of all aspects

competent leaders, considerable foreign influence, capable military, robust economy, healthy population, etc

I liked the way they tested the rifles by making the shooters remain in the same position.
.
A better test would be to make a test where 2 shooters use their existing weapons beside another two shooters using the proposed weapons performing shooting 5 rounds as a battle formation. Then make the pairs of shooters swap weapons. Time the exercise and then examine their shots on target.

Basically, this is the only infantry small arm that ever was the decisive factor in a major war.

The Austro-prussian war of 1866 to be specific.

The Prussians had the Dreyse rifle, while the Austrians were still using muzzle-loading rifled muskets.

Which pretty much decided all of the major engagements.

Es ist zwar nur eine filmische Darstellung, aber kein jemand erklären warum dieser Clown Ludwig, der Bayern finanziell ruiniert hat, bis heute von vielen Bayern fast gottgleich gesehen wird?

I understand that after the start of the war in Ukraine, many Ludwigs had to revise their views on the army.

It should also be noted that the significance of the Dreyse was that, first, it had a much faster rate of fire than existing percussion locks, but second, it could be loaded and fired from a prone position, greatly enhancing the survivability of the soldier.

The soldiers all being portrayed as buffoons doesn’t make Ludwig’s anti-militarism a part of his character because it isn’t a decision at all. Also you can see the other propaganda angle in that they chose an ugly, troon looking actor instead of someone who actually looked like the man.

The militancy of Bavaria is not exaggerated as the 1870 Prussian-French war served Bismark's goal to unite the rest of the Germanic states into one Germany than the benefit of obtaining Aslace Lorriaine, as great as that was. The German pride and disposition to become a great empire like Britain and France was similar to Japan's that led the Japanese to go to war in China and later attack Pearl Harbor.

Pauly ,themgunmaker developed and invented the self contained cartridge and gun as we know it back then ,also artillery. Napoleon would not buy it,too new,too unknown and uncertain.

Pauly had two apprentices in his shop that developed idea further and came up with new ideas .
Lefacheux and Dreyse was his applies.

Funny how Republican Parents behave exactly the same way as this one did a century earlier. Tell their kids their views of the world are wrong, how dangerous ANYONE is who dose not think like "THEY" do and preaches to them how Violence is always the answer. Pathetic

At the invention of the needlegun, the range was quite inferior to a muzzzle loader, but 1866, (war with the Austrians) showed clearly, that to fire 5 times faster, was of superior importance.

The Dreyse was a wonderful weapon. For people interested you should check out our rifle from Norway. The "Kammerlader" Very interesting and cool firearm from the same time that was also a breech loader. Came in 1847 I think. :-) There is a cool video where thay put them up against eachother.
