Its just another nail in the coffin for small affiliate site owners I'm afraid. I'm convinced that at the start of 2024 Amazon will cut commissions yet again.

Many html editors allow for the use of regular expressions (regex) in a search and replace operation. Can you see any problem with using that approach to convert image ads in large websites to text ads, basically, extracting the AISN and reformating as a text ad?

AAWP is like it was eith the image. Used it in many years eithout problem.
It but it doubt if there is more problem with API

Amazon is doing everything that points to them shutting down the affiliate program.

This is not the behavior of a company who values their affiliates. When they kept letting their SSL cerificates expire i knew something was wrong. In August Native Ads were shut off.

This latest move is a sign the end is near. There is no other reason to sytematically remove ways for aporoved affiliates to sell Amazon products.

I'd love to know why, but this is a hopeless situation for affiliates.
