Shame you got a broken one, Ive had one of these for a few months now and its been working fine. I also have the small usb 8watt ones and making a yourself a new cable with proper silicon wire is a must otherwise they are so hard to use with the default cable.
ОтветитьThis SOT-23 mosfet should be replaced with PMIC for sure. You can't switch this high current load with no protection.
ОтветитьI liked your channel better when you made stuff.
Good luck selling stuff.
That's what happens when you try to turn a dab rod for a rig and try to make a solidering iron out of it. My be the inventer had a little to much then had a great idea for a iron build.🤔🤫😉😑😆✌️
ОтветитьThis is vape modification
ОтветитьIs there any chance you shorted the circuit when you were testing the voltage? That might have fried the fet. The tip will have a higher resistance than your meter probe. :-) Love the fact that someone has repurposed a ecig battery pack and bolted on a soldering tip.
ОтветитьSeeing how they modified an e-cigarette to make that, it would be interesting to see if the concept could be taken farther: make an iron soldering tip that go on those beefy 18650 e-cigarettes in place of the whole tank assembly. I guess there is kind of a norm because of the number of after market tanks, and the DC to DC part would be already taken care of.
ОтветитьLooks great for vaping, bad for soldering. I hate the conical tips anyway, they do not transfer heat as well as chisel tips. Ecig type protection is surely a real pain for soldering.
ОтветитьYes, this is a battery for a 510 atomizer of a "Kanger evod" e-cigarette. An outdated (5 years old) model with 10 sec draw limit. Crazy!
ОтветитьInformative * Interesting * Entertaining
You got it all 👍😎
It's a e-cigarette + iron tip
ОтветитьI had one of these (you can buy the tip only) and connected it to my old e-go vape. It's got enough power for simple surface mount work and fits neatly in a tiny business card box, but it struggles to solder to large ground floods or chunky wires. It also fares badly with lead-free solder due to the higher melting point. On a more useful note that USB 8W iron I built a control board for - initially tried to estimate the tip temperature with the temperature coefficient (via shunt resistor) but it was too unstable so now I just blindly PWM and adjust duty cycle as needed - you're welcome to have the schematic and firmware if you want to build one. Thanks for the great video :)
ОтветитьThank you for the heads up about this piece of rubbish.
ОтветитьThe Evod twist is a standard vaporiser (Ecig) power source. The 10 second time out is a feature of almost all regulated vaporiser power sources. Most interesting to me is the tips with the 510 connector (an industry standard for vapourisers). Since I make a lot of my own stuff and have the 510 sockets, I think I'll buy some tips and make something that runs off an 18650 Li-ion battery. It would also be possible to make something that uses an ATtiny85 for a PWM heat control and to turn it off if the battery level gets too low. ETA: it should be almost impossible to damage the electronics on an Evod twist. It has protection to stop it firing a load that is too low, so something else is going on here.
ОтветитьThat is just a vaporizer with a soldering tip
ОтветитьMate ... That's an ecig conversion O_o ... NEVER underestimate the chinese ... EVER
ОтветитьYou are correct.
The Time out is a failure.
Thanks for the review
ОтветитьDo you have your review link for the Simple USB 8W Soldering Iron?
ОтветитьHi can you tell me where you got your probe master probes I live in England and the only place I can get them is America but the shipping cost more than the probes
ОтветитьIt is indeed an eGo e-cig body with a soldering iron screwed on, the eGo had the same 5 clicks protection and exactly the same recharger. One of the most annoying things was the same you've mentioned, you couldn't vape it while charging. It even has the "security feature" preventing the eCig.. ahem, sorry, the soldering iron, to keep running for over 10 seconds :D
ОтветитьSo many negative reviews that I now ignore them and try for myself. I have one of these units and have tried to stress test it. Mine works perfectly. It won't replace my TS80 but I use it a lot inside the enclosures of industrial machinery...very convenient and thus far, reliable 👍
not interesting anymore to this soldering iron
Ответитьdang ok first i foght u dont like that cheap plastock one that i have one it works perfect and do its job perfect glad i taked cheap one not expencive one thanks a lot hope u got money returned back @@
Ответитьunfortunately I saw your review too late. 10 seconds is too short to work. Luckily I also have this other 8 W soldering iron on USB
Ответитьfor any vaper out there that want a cordless soldering, just buy the tip that has 510 connector, connect it to your mods, finish.
Ответитьhahaha... outdated E-Cigarette converted to a soldering iron. Ingenious... !!! eGo Style 510 Connectors.... EVOD Twist by Kangertech. They didn't even remove the logo... It's an old school Vape Pen... LOL
ОтветитьI bought one off eBay crap powerless. Bought the sealey and fitted a new battery and more mah now it's good. And iv just bought a slimline cordless iron of eBay turn it on shows battery power two Led and a torch pad that you just put your finger on the heat the iron so far its my favourite.
ОтветитьThanks. You’ve saved me 20€. 👌🏽
ОтветитьYou can repair your solder by soldering it with another solder. :D
ОтветитьYou can buy the 510 solder tips 3x £5 of wish for a normal vape there rubbish 🗑
ОтветитьWhat charger do charge it?
ОтветитьIt’s a vape pen battery
Ответитьwhy not buy one of these, for the housing, momentary switch, and ability to mount this tips, then replace the electronics on it with something more robust? Maybe even find a way to mount some kind of potentiometer or PWM for basic temperature control? PWM would be most preferable, but a potentiometer would be simpler.
ОтветитьWish I watched this before I purchased one from AliExpress as a hobbyist..
Agreed, these are e-waste. Spend a little extra and grab a temperature controlled iron actually designed for soldering
buy an ecig mod that doesn't have all the bells and whistles.
"Mechanical mod"
I've been making them since 2009.
Im seeing a lot of vape mods repurposed as portable soldering irons. I guess the Vape mod business had cooled down a lot.
ОтветитьThats 100% a vape mod lol
ОтветитьSo I had the same experience and thought it was green. Then I unscrewed the charger whilst it was still plugged in to the USB socket, sure enough it changes to a dark green. I'm inclined to think the person who selected the red LED for the charger may be green/red colour blind. If it's not charged it's pale green, and if it is it's dark green it's charged.
ОтветитьDoes harmful vapors come from the tips...just say I wanted to vape bong Rips of cannabis using the hot tip?
ОтветитьI bought a similar one one, with the Micro USB port in the back, and it works fairly well for simple soldering. It starts to struggle heat wise on anything with a ground plane, but soldering wires together on the run, it does the job. So far, I haven't had any issues with the battery at all, and seems to last a while.
It doesn't compare to a proper soldering iron, like the T12 irons I'm using mostly now, but it's super handy for soldering on the run!
I've got two e-cig bodies, both powered by 2x18650 cells. And since I quit vaping like 4 years ago, I converted them both to soldering irons and MY GOD these are awesome. 25-30W and these beauties work like a charm, no stupid gas ones, no expensive usb ones.
ОтветитьAn old vape pen, a so called vape pen with a ego connection 🤣
ОтветитьI need am
Ответитьsurprised it doesnt use an 18650 battery
ОтветитьThese things couldn't melt wax.
