There was going to be a movie "Get Happy" with Anne Hathaway based on the book. After Harvey Weinstein got cancelled the project was buried. It would have been epic. But I think it was doomed anyway because Liza threatened to sue because the gritty Vincent Minelli stuff would have been in the biopic.

The lyrics to this song gives me chills... imagine someone singing it with a more melancholy tone.. I bet no one will get Happy but scared shitless.
You know what this song makes me think? It makes me think: you're inevitably gonna die someday. May as well get happy about it because you can't avoid it. Dying isn't so bad.. it's nice and quiet.. let yourself die happy. 🥲

What a perfect number, brilliant in every way, from Judy's performance of course, to the wonderful dancers, choreography, music and backdrop. Bravo!

I have always loved this number until I learned the BTS of it's creation. The producers were not happy with her weight so after the filming wrapped, they put her on a strict diet and shot this number months (or weeks? I'm not sure) after. It's why it looks so strange when you watch it in the movie because this was obviously shot on a sound stage and none of her back-up dancers here appeared on the film (or at least not recognizably so). Thinking about how this woman was treated infuriates me and I'm not even a Judy Garland fan (aside from simply someone who appreciates her talent and place in history and her incredible impact on culture).

In my book, Judy Garland is worth a billion bucks -- NOT someone like Taylor Swift. We've been so deprived of TRUE, legendary talent for so long that people don't have current examples by which to recognize it. Well -- THIS IS IT.

Judy was one of - if not ' the' Baddest Bitch! If you don't get & recognize her you don't know perfection!!!

All the studios used and abused their celebrities and chewed them up and spit them out after usefulness.
But, this was a two-fold doulble-sided coin.
Actors sought work in Hollywood for fame and most of all: fortune.
Because, studios were to make movies and money quickly.
Turn around time was short, work hours were long.
There were no laws like today with 40 hour work week, lunches, breaks and no child labor laws.
Not just for the studios, but for everyone across America's labor force.
Regular American's did it to survive with little pay. It was just life.
While studio celebrities were well paid.
Contracts, despite the hours and other requirements, was $5,000 per month average.
Much like today's generation, only demands of millions per movie and less demanding work hours and requirements.
So, I dont necessarily feel sorry for them.
Even in today's World, I know no one nor does the average person bring in $5,000 a month.
But, throughout the years, labor laws have changed the way employers can work an employee for the betterment of the employee and worker.

As unhappy as her actual life was, no one could play happy like Judy Garland.

i know this song is supposed to be happy but it comes off haunting and sad.

This scene was shot about a month after filming had ended when it was decided a more exciting number was needed. Judy had lost over 20 pounds in that short time, which is why she's so much slimmer here than she is in the movie (and why many believed this was a deleted scene from another movie). I wish it had been filmed with the weightier Judy.
