Thank you for this video. You mentioned the copyright matter but my main concern regarding all free patterns is can I use them to make items to sell. Not selling patterns but final finished products. All disclaimers are very confusing and all say that you cannot reproduce the patterns in any forms but does not say about actual crocheted item. Any advice? Thank you in advance

I need to learn how to monetize a blog or something because my patterns take days to create, of course I’d like to offer them for free but I need my time to be compensated too.

Thanks for this; you're so helpful. I've been away from crochet for several years and impulsively bought a ton of yarn. Now I see, though, that what happened to most print media happened in the craft world, too, and everything is online. You have saved me hours of frustration.

Thanks for the hints for free patterns! Yarn is expensive enough without paying for patterns! Any hints on convincing your spouse to pay for yarn?

I'm surprised you don't have crochetpatternsgalore and knitpatternsgalore. I love those two sites because I filter by yardage to find projects almost exclusively. I haven't found other sites to be as easy to find patterns by yardage.

I’m recently new to your channel (about four days now), and I just have to say that I love watching you! You’re so bubbly and positive that it just makes me smile!! Thank you for sharing these! I’m also new to crocheting (since Jan), so it’s nice to know where I can go to look for patterns 😁 Also, where did you get your little steamer?❤

I adore your channel and am super happy to have seen my personal favorite (yarnspirations) in your recommendations. I do have a question though, unrelated to free patterns. I was gifted a few crochet books that show patterns and completed pictures for stitches, but don't really explain them very well. Being new to reading patterns, especially ones with symbols, it's hard to find video resources with the same name as the ones in the books I have. Would you be able to offer tips for beginners on how to decipher this? The book I received and cannot seem to translate to actual stitches in yarn is: "The New Crochet Stitch Dictionary" by Nele Braas and Eveline Hetty-Burkart. I have 2 others that explain more and have more pictures that are focused more on borders, but I have been attempting to use up my yarn stash by making the equivalent of a stitch sampler in crochet, making squares each using different stitches and different colors to assemble as a blanket.

Hi, just found this fantastic channel and I am HOOKED! Thank you for some new tips on where to find patterns. Knew most of them but as a crocheter and knitter I am always on the hunt for new patterns. I am with you on the will buy a free pattern if I use it more than once! I do buy patterns too since I like to support creators, we need to have each others backs. Looking forward to catching up with your content.

My comment is going to be a long one because I'm trying to help you fix your blog post lol (I make mistakes in my posts too, so I'm not judging)..... You said "Scenario: Sally publishes four patterns a month with a catalog of 200 patterns. She claims she has officially registered ALL of her crochet patterns with the U.S. Copyright office. I highly DOUBLE it. It would take HERE years and a lot of money to register them all." I'm sure you meant DOUBT it and HER. - - - You said "You will see a disclaimer at the end of their patterns that say, “Do not sell any item created from this pattern”. Well, I’m here to set the ROAMER straight. They can’t do this." I'm sure you meant RUMOR. - - - This was a great video and I appreciated that blog post. I will have to check out some of the resources I didn't already know about. I have the Libby library app on my phone, but never thought to check and see if they had crochet books. I wrote a similar post on Tumblr about the pattern copyrights thing, but my post wasn't as nice lol. I'm so tired of designers telling me I can't sell a finished item. Along with the copyrights of their pattern, there is a thing called intellectual property which basically covers use and processes like the art of crocheting for creating things like garments. This is why crochet stitches cannot be copyrighted. A designer has copyright of a pattern for a garment, whether it is crochet, knit, sewing, or whatever, but a garment itself cannot be copyrighted... I know you already said that lol.

I'm so happy you mentioned the library! I have so many unique (digital) crochet books in my list! From books based on certain authors' work (AUSTENtatious Crochet) to specific types of stitches (interweave, tunisian), to a book just about crochet borders, to crochet for self-care. I love loading these (and Crochet World magazine) on my Kindle because its screen doesn't time out as fast as my tablet or phone. And I can use the Kindle's mark-up features to keep track of my progress!

I'm privileged enough to be able to pay for patterns more often than not, but I love this video. I especially love the library mention and the copyright discussion. So many people think you have to register a copyright for it to be valid and that's simply not true.

All great suggestions for free patterns. You gave me a couple of new ones to explore. You also gave me new valuable information. I purchased a pattern on Etsy for a wedding blanket and am currently crocheting that, but it gave me inspiration to create some of my own designs. Since I have yet to delve into that world of pattern making, you gave me valuable info on the copyright law. I love that! Thanks so much!

Welcome to the Jeep family. As I have/had 3 Jeeps, I made a tire cover for my 2 wranglers. The 2 door went to my hubby, so he made me take the cover off. I made a different cover for my 4 door. I took it off when we traded it in for the Gladiator, which is the truck, so no tire cover. I am thinking of making a sun shade.
