The Problem With Isaac Clark's New Face | Dead Space Remake

Just picked up ds1 on game pass & was shocked to be playing as Woody from Toy Story (I’ve never played through a dead space game but my brother played it when I was a kid so I’ve been waiting for the remake- so disappointing because I love Isaac’s original look grey hair blue eyes and stubble it matches the blue tones of his suit

Old Isaak does look like someone though: Seattle musician and (for a short time) bassist for Dinosaur Jr. called Mike Johnson! :)

I'm sure that's completely unintentional, but they have very similar facial features and aesthetic, especially that thousand-mile stare that really suits someone who's been through A LOT. New Isaac looks too hopeful and a little out of place in a story that is kinda characterized by how hopeless it gets.

It's not even a horrendous mistake either, darken his hair and put some gray streaks in it, give him some dark circles and a five o'clock shadow and it would be just fine.

spoilers I've never played the original and just started ng+ but issac by the end looks like he's not ok, he has dirt and marks on his face like he's just been through hell and is just glad that the situation he was in is over.

I honestly didn't let it bug me all that I just wanted to experience the atmosphere of the ishimura again and kick necromorph ass

For all those that Justify Isaac and Nicoles looks for the Remake, I just want to say that Josh Duhamel and Sam Witwer were the voice actors and mocap for the protagonist Jacob Lee and antagonist Cpt. Leon Ferris. Also Witwer was Starkiller in The Force Unleashed were he was portrayed really well for a PS3 game

The original Isaac looks like an engineer with death in his eyes. The remake looks like Adam Sandler working utilities at my city. Also, the new Nicole is a cougar.

I think the original Isaac looks better. This dude looks like a ginger pushing 60, no offense to the actor, I'm sure he looks better irl. But yeah it literally doesn't matter and it won't impact the game whatsoever, but I would've opted for a remake of the original design instead of a new one.

Makes sense since he's fresh and doesn't know about the incident yet. Wait for Dead Space 2 remake. Pretty sure they will add the PTSD look.

On paper, I could make a case for the face change. Namely that Isaac was never supposed to be the tough grizzled space marine or badass warrior. He's an engineer, a regular joe who ends up in a horrifying situation. So I suppose a plainer face could, in theory, work to reflect that.
In practice, however, you design things in video games to be memorable. This face is neither here nor there, which is almost worse than being terrific or terrible. And my first thought was "He reminds me of Adam Sandler", which I don't think is the first thought the devs wanted me to have for an intense horror game set in space.

He looks too young

So the remake is something I had to get used to the way I see it the original is awesome but the remake actually makes him look like someone who has been in the engineering department for awhile his face looks like his age. I like it.

His original look was perfect. Nothing special but also kinda unique and you could see the stuff that he went through in his eyes. A simple engineer who went through horrible stuff.
In the remake he looks just like a generic Call Of Duty character. I hate it.

I think the reason they changed Isaac's face is because this is a new Isaac.

This is no longer the Isaac that never talked in the first game making him very stoic in the rest of the games.
Spoiler warning, this is much more of a human Isaac, he shows more emotion in his dialog and voice, Isaac even losses his temper at Nicole after she treated his mother and told them she'll be better on earth only for her to murder her husband and kills herself. Plus I think Isaac nearly cries after watching Nicole final message after he finds out she killed herself

If they had just used Gunner's actual face in the beginning, this wouldn't be an issue right now. People just don't like change.

I also think he's more manly and handsome in the original. Also for him to be cleanly shaved after and during this whole ordeal, and no signs of fatigue and stress in his face like wrinkles and dark eyes makes utterly no sense. I hate what they did with his face, and I hate what most newer games do with faces in general most of the time, say dmc6 (Dante is ok, Nero almost ok too), the resident evil games, last of us 2... Like, what the hell, it's like we're regressing! It's also a bit in that uncanny valley here like most of those 'mocap faces'... And why not at least keep the eye bags and unshaven face like in the image you showed? Idk if I agree he looks like an exec, he looks more like a slimy politician or one of those old day slimy door to door salesmen

The old issac had a haunted face. Thus new one looks too clean.

The reason he looks out of place is because they just copied the voice actors face.

The old isaac looked dark. With grey hair and a run down face. The new one looks like a golden knight, who got on the wrong ship by accident.

Really, all they need to do is give him some gray hair and some stubble, and he'll be closer to his original appearance. Why they chanced his hair and eye color is beyond me, but I can give it a pass if they make him look more disheveled in the (potential) DS2 remake.
But people really need to stop exaggerating when they say "Issac looks 21 and Nicole looks 50." Issac is definitely showing his age with this new face. The man has plenty of wrinkles. I think it's the lack of facial hair that's making him look younger at a glance.

Isaac is 45 but in the remake he looks like he's 25.

its actually the opposite - the original looks like a SOMEBODY, who is really a wreck and someone seen and done some crazy shit. while the remake is a NOBODY... who looks like an NPC, who died in the background. like an older Ken doll.

cant they just give him the DS2 haircut, unkept and grizzled look. if you can mocap your face to a different being, why hell can you not edit the face a bit. the guy looks like he just took a walk in the park.

I hate the new face because A) he looks less like me & B) he looks like a bible-thumping dairy farmer who says "aw shucks" and "golly gee" which is the TRUE tragedy

I understand alot of peoples gripes when it comes to his makeover, but I feel the idea that he looks “clean” is fitting.
As far as I’m aware Isaac is aged somewhere between 45 - 50, which means he’s likely spent a lot of time in his field and has moved up the ladder, at this point it’s probable he’s more of a foreman or supervisor so his heavy lifting days are behind him, plus more money to live a more comfortable life. Add onto that the fact that he believes he’s going to go rescue his girlfriend off of a disabled ship so it’s no surprise he cleaned up for his first - in person - meeting after 6 months.
To me he looks more like an every day guy moving into his later life than the grizzled grease monkey in the original, but again I completely understand peoples views on the change!

I like Isaac's new design, maybe they grey him up a bit and stubble to show stress and traumatic aging

Dead Space 3 was made in 2013 unless you're my age how did you play this game where would you even find a copy don't tell me that you played it in 2013 because you would have been too young to play a game that is rated m for mature

I know damn well you didn't just lie to me I even said I knew you were lying because you didn't actually give a description of the game or any Pacific reasons why you didn't like it and a game where you are customizing your own weapons and hanging out with your friend the game wouldn't be terrible unless you're just boring uninspired and have no friends

I've been playing despacito 2 multiplayer for several years after every team deathmatch we go play Dead Space 3 this isn't just me this is an entire community that has been playing all this time didn't need to wait for a remake we've just been sitting there

Isaac's are somebody now and that's a problem you guys not like Isaac wasn't as somebody to us beforehand Aldi Play despacito 3 where did you get the copy from you have a Xbox you have an Xbox and you haven't play Dead Space 2

He looks like less of a somebody, but thats why I don't like it. They shouldve made him look actually like the voice actor more.

I also prefer the original face of Isaac and the rest of the cast.

He looks like he just started his engineering career at 26, instead of an experienced worker with years of experience thrown in an unlikely scenario who, throughout the horror, gets more stressed and tired.

Nicole and Kendra look AWFUL. Nicole now reminds me of a menopausic cat lady in her 50's, and of course the devs had the ''brilliant'' idea to erase everything that made Kendra a memorable character aside from her sexiness.

Thank f***, I thought I was the only one who thought Isaac Clarke look like Mark Zuckerberg in this remake. Jesus Christ I hope they update this new look in the future. Maybe make it into a feature you can toggle in the options menu or something, I'm on Xbox, and while I'll be praising PC modders forward. I just don't want to have to be stuck with this Mark Zuckerberg look-alike on console. Cuz now, I will never shake the feeling of something being off everytime Isaac opens his mouth.
