L8 reply but: basic fit is no longer basic when your accessories and hair are intentional. Add jewelry or fun shoes or a bag. Put up your hair in a bun/pony, tuck it in a special way, hair accessories, hat, curls, options are endless. Have nails painted, etc. It’s the little details that make you put together than a girl who wore the same thing as everyone else.

My big sister advice:
- it's helpful to know what you "should" wear for your body type so you can know what rules you're breaking and why. If you've ever had that "it looked so good in my head, something isn't working" outfit, it's usually something that can be tweaked by applying/ignoring those rules. (I also use it on low self-esteem days as an alternative to hoodies & jeans)
- social media is for yourself first, the only people who will give a shit in a week are you, your mom, and like 3 friends. The people I know who have the most fun experience with it use SM as a scrapbook/outlet for their creativity 
- Basic styles/trends are basic b/c millions of teen girls with good taste found a solid product/etc, there's no shame in liking what's tried and true.
- if you just can't figure out what makes your style yours, start with clothes you have a personal attachment to. Band tees and showing off your art/the art you like are good ways to visually express yourself and your interests
- create an inner voice that's you in your 60's. I hear old ladies complain that they didn't do hot girl shit when they were hot all the time, you're hot now. What would old-you wish they did?

i get so easily influenced by trends (thanks bpd) and i used to worry about people finding me shallow for it. once I accepted that i tend to like what’s trending (because exposure duhh) i felt so much more relaxed and eventually I think it made my style more unique because I wasn’t worrying all the time. i do enjoy wearing the silhouettes, materials etc that are contemporary because it makes me feel like I am a part of something and feel connected to other people. it doesn’t necessarily have to go with consumerism.

The way you always kinda 'promote' dressing on trend is so refreshing. You make fashion less stressful & fun

You likely haven't had the opportunity to experiment much. In high school you often have dress codes (school/parents/peer) and many other limitations. In college you are often too busy and broke to care. You don't have time to find out your style until you start working and living on your own.
