You need to find someone who scrapes machine ways. They could fix you up with some Biax power scraper action.

Do the original bearings carry makers marks or part numbers that are recognisable?

How do you fill and drain the drive assembly when all the fill plugs on the sides of the case are still rusted shut? Does the gear oil come in under pressure?

Good Craftsmenship !! IT is Not easy to Deal with Parts heavy Like Hell and also precise manufactured! What a Job the Guys had done in War Conditions, Winter and every few Days a new Place to Work. My Grandpa was a Sergeant Mayor in the Medic Corps in Charkow 80 Years ago. He picked Up the Woundet and escortet them to Germany near Kassel. His Brother August was Commander in such a Sturmgeschütz even in the Area at Charkow, the Area Putin ist fighting against the Ucraine now. They both died in the War, but they reportet at Home about the every Day Cruelty against Human Beeings they can't stand anymore on the Ostfront. One of the Brothers died in Amerika in a POW Camp by Appendizitis. So 3 from 4 died. The 4. One survived the Genozid of mentally disabled people by Hitler luckily. So every Men Out of my mothers Family was gone after the War.They choose the Ostfront Not because they wanted to fight, they all where Members of the Kommunist Party as Workers before War. They had been arrestet by the SA in pre- KZ Prisons but they choosed the Wehrmacht because the could protect the Familie in this way. But the Areas they were send, were the deadlyest in War. So the Story of the Sturmgeschütz of my Greatuncle hit by russian PAK in Rostock 1945.

Those double row roller bearings are reliant on the outer bearing races being concentric from each other, and the inner races being concentric of each other. When both sets of races are aligned with each other on an axial plane, they provide zero thrust movement since the rollers are semi-tapered inside the races. the clearances between the races and their bores and shafts need to be right, or they'll be sloppy.

Awesome video! I can't comprehend the size of the milling machine that was used to machine the sides of a tank! I have often wondered how the engineering compared across various tanks, some must have been a bit of a dog's breakfast others brilliant.

maybe you should save the old non usable parts that have been cut off and make them into souvenirs that viewers can buy. That way you could make a little bit extra to use for future projects!

It's interesting. In Germany, they used custom parts for all their vehicles. Here in the us, they used whatever commercial parts they could. Case in point the M1 tank engine made out of 6 dodge 6 cylinder engines. The only custom part was the case that formed the joining part for all 6 engines.

A good solution to keep new bolts from rusting and giving them a slightly better edge (doesn't always work, the quality of the metal is important) is to heat them up (not cherry hot, but hot enough) that when dunked in used motor oil, they turn flat black. I've had hinges, bolts, all manner of metal that's exposed to the weather 24/7 done up this fashion and it never rusts post treatment.

Is simply nothing less than astounding the German-Austian war industry/WaffenAmt/CZ's Skodawerke's were able to produce such a high volume of war materials, in addition to the fact they couldve employed more easily made, less complicated, manufactorum-based streamline'd designs, fabrication & assembly processes...Yet the chose not too in so many cases?!

-Also considering they didnt step upon a combined & total full war footing as a national economy until late 1942-early 1943, meaning many German Companies were still producing consumer goods, even luxury consumer goods up until that point...

-All seeming so wild to not do so until too late in the game? Odd that even though the war situation was written on the wall so to speak, the highest output of war materials saw Feb 1944 as its own high water mark. In part, largely do to Minister of Armament. Albert Speer, & his DE-centralization of many industries, making them harder to target & ultimately destroy. So the allies chose to kill civilians/slave-spec foreign workers that worked, slave'd away within & served those industries instead. Large cities ARE easier targets when it comes to large-scale fire-bombing campaigns I suppose?...
-No matter how one chooses to view that particular era in history, supremely sad none the less...

GORGEOUS work & historical restoration guys!

Fantastic job, guys! However, I have a question: i have a technical drawing showing the cutoff of the final drive asssembly, and, on top and on bottom of the main axle (the one that is grooved) there are 2 bolts (the ones you see in the video); what was the purpose of these two bolts?. The purpose of the bottom one is to retain the bearing?.

That bearing is called a sperical roller bearing, inside race id is cone shaped to set the roller bearing clearance.
