You know that Canary Wharf was previously “The” Canary Wharf (with the emphasis on ‘Canary’)? Ships went from there to the Canary Islands - this was from the 1930s through to the end of the docks - bringing fresh fruit & veg to London through the English winter. Fred. Olsen were the main shipping company involved - they had (and still have) business interests in the Canary Islands. Norman Foster designed a new terminal/headquarters for them in the Millwall Dock in the 1960s, and this was an important early commission for him. All gone now, of course.

The last time I was in Canary Wharf, almost exactly a year ago, I got drunk in Carluccios on whisky, wine and vegan meat - and then, shortly after, walked into a nearby glass door at high speed. I suppose I must have thought there wasn't a door there.

I was pissed off about things, but this video cheered me up!

The 45 seconds you save isn't just time saved. It's also frustration avoided because you avoid slow walkers in the shopping centre. The only reason I would go the "long way" is if it were raining or really cold, or maybe if I needed to piss. Otherwise, Heron Quay it is!
