they should teach this at school
ОтветитьOk wait - you mention drum n bass starts in the 90s but then use a sub focus track from the 2000's as an example? Then you say dubstep originated in the late 90s in the UK, but the track you play as an example is Borgore - Decisions, which released in 2012. Thats two different decades / genres / tracks you get wrong and also songs like this Borgore track were widely considered BROstep when released and relative latecomers to the "dubstep" scene. Im no expert, but there was a fairly heated debate that BROstep was not "real dubstep", because "real dubstep" was shit like Burial. The complaint was that fans of artists like Skrillex co-opted the name of the genre "dubstep" for whatever reason and these artists became super popular while not producing anything that resembled "original" or "real dubstep". Of course its ok to make mistakes and such and I'm no expert on sub genres myself, but these mistakes seem fairly obvious and egregious to anyone who knows anything about the history or was involved in the scene... Not to mention - these are just the mistakes that I as a non-expert was able to catch so - it makes me wonder if theres a bevy of other problems in your video or line of thinking that I'm missing as well.. I've been out of the scene for a bit now and came here to try to figure out wtf "Riddim" is and from your examples - if theyre correct - it just sounds closer to what "original" or "real" dubstep is / was.. but who knows
ОтветитьYou need better examples of drum and bass - the tune that defines it for me is Alex Reece - pulp fiction. The tracks you posted are later more commercial types of d+b
ОтветитьRiddim isnt a real thing. Riddim is what idiots who got into dubstep way too late are calling original dubstep. The music people know as 'dubstep' now didnt come out till YEARS after the original dubstep came out(what clowns are calling riddim). When it did, it was labeled as Brostep, a subgenre of dubstep, by the actual fans of dubstep at the time.
Then some idiots on too much ketamine just co-oped the name dubstep, instead of coming up with their own subgenre name, it all blended together, and now fast forward 20 years you got people creating their own bullshit genre name for what is the real and true DUBSTEP sound. Whats hilarious is I literally just watched an interview with Boogie T where he admitted he doesnt even know wtf Riddim really is 😂. - a dubstep fan since the mid 2000s
This was a great video! And excellent history too!
Now lets get back to the studio and make some more riddim 😂
Riddim wins
ОтветитьThank You for Sharing😃. GREETINGS from CABO VERDE ISLANDS 🤩🤩🤩
ОтветитьSucks that you included Datsik in this after what he did
ОтветитьAhh, its cool that you've mentioned the record label "Monsters" I have a few releases on there haha.
Also, great video, it was nice to see the evolution of all the older genres and how they gradually changed into what we have today, sooooo much music!
Thank you for the video 😊
Thank you
ОтветитьGreat video, though I really wish you had started with UK dubstep tracks that birthed from two-step and garage, that started the whole genre, and then played some of the "bro-step" that you did, to show how much the genre has evolved, and how someone like Horsepower Productions who started the genre sounds nothing like Skrillex or similar, aside from the same BPM, and use of sub-bass and kick-snare. UK dubstep was/is a lot more minimal, and more about leaving space in the track, so to speak. That said, I love both and try to see as many of both sounds in concert as I can. And quick note: That Badklaat track is called Head Crush.
Ответитьyeah riddim sucks.
Ответитьvery educational, have you heard Skrilllex's new album quest for fire?
ОтветитьI was lucky enough to see Borgore live before he made it big in a club in Brixton back in like 2012. Ngl kinda jealous you got to see him in his prime xD
ОтветитьI love how back in my teens and 20’s, EDM was all called Techno! Lol
ОтветитьIdk the exact genre I listen to most but love edm !! Period!
ОтветитьNice video!
Ответитьawesome video on the history of dubstep man, very well put together covering all aspects of sub genres and where it has come from. I would love to hear your opinion/views on "riddim dubstep" from my knowledge that has come from the roots of uk dub but also mixed with the heavy basslines but with a more bouncy rhythm feel hence the name riddim and not such a crashing and smashing of sounds all together in you're face lol.
ОтветитьAm I going to get through this whole video without Burial or Loefah mentioned?
ОтветитьTwice Skrillex songs that aren’t dubstep, like Purple Lamborghini
ОтветитьBorgore’s Unicorn Zombie apocalypse couldn’t be Dubstep
ОтветитьThank you! Finally I learned it!
ОтветитьSomeone told me virtual riot wasn't dubstep, dubstep is softer. Now I know, he is dubstep and riddim. Even says on Google haha
ОтветитьThe term EDM can go die somewhere.
ОтветитьGreat videos. FYI “patois” is pronounced pat-Twah 😊
ОтветитьThis was a very good educational video! Have subbed|
ОтветитьThank you! I think I get it now 😂
ОтветитьRiddim is 100% the most boring subgenre of dubstep
ОтветитьNIceeee! But i know you knew you had it comming when opening the topic on genres.... Alright so, DnB is not a debated genre it is one. It started out as a develoupment of DUBsound culture and drum breakbeats. After it got branded as a seprate music genre , it slowly created Dubstep, when artists and producers started to experiment with the same formula of Heavy sub bass and breakbeat style drums, but slower. xD DnB has many mnay legit sub genres. But again when talking about music genres it's hard to pinpoint what and where, and when, the shift started to happen so a seprate genre get's recognised, so always take it with a grain of salt. Great video, enjoyed watching it! Keep on raving! **
Edit yes I said genre =D
Loefah is the best example of "real" dubstep. Excision is brostep all the way. Him and Downlink once released a tune called '2005', honoring the pioneers of dubstep.
Ответитьwhats the song played in the outro?
Ответитьsays there are timestamps. there aren't. spends most of the video talking about other genres
ОтветитьSubscribing after this video.
ОтветитьI hate riddim. It sounds like it's trying to be heavy and dark, but in my opinion the drops are too slow, simple, and without IMPACT to the beats.
ОтветитьYou forgot to mention that Riddim is why people now think “Dubstep is just ear piercing painful construction noises” and is where EDM music started to devolve...
I hope it does get labeled as it’s own genre, because it sucks having it associated with dubstep and makes the real talented genre look and sound terrible. Bring back sexy dubstep!
Also, not all dubstep is 140bmp...
You look like you should sell pencils
ОтветитьThat was the Flux pavilion I can't stop vip version. Plus for original dubstep you should be playing something like Skream.
ОтветитьRiddim is the shitty version of old dubstep
ОтветитьRiddim is shite
ОтветитьRiddim is the best subgenre in dubstep
ОтветитьThank you cause I was so confused
Ответитьi feel like riddim is just very simple head banging music very easy to dance to
ОтветитьThank you for the video break down. Really helped me figure out that I enjoy riddim dubstep versus what I'd call brostep. The big shows I've seen like subtronics and Boogie (which i think is riddim) explains why I have to be at the rail headbanging so hard I cant walk for a couple days lmfao
ОтветитьAs someone who likes to classify the different subgenres of EDM, this video was so helpful and informative on the general jists of EDM as well, given the historical context you dived into. Many thanks! Will be subbing!
ОтветитьAlso like to add a lot of OG riddim tracks don’t have much of a build up and drop on the 17 as opposed to the 25
ОтветитьRiddim all day
ОтветитьO can picture her dancing to with me let's dustep .
ОтветитьIn my opinion, it seems like we have taken old school type dubstep (actual dubstep) and given it the name Riddim. And brostep has replaced what we used to consider dubstep.
Or maybe I’ve actually liked riddim all along and just grew up calling dubstep.
