The Lighthouse is a movie that challenges audiences. When you throw out a term like “enjoy” I don’t think that’s what the filmmakers were going for when they made the movie. You’re not supposed to enjoy it... it’s meant to make you feel confused, unsure, uneasy, uncomfortable. The film makes you feel like your losing your own mind as your trying to piece together what is happening between the characters as so many nonsensical things happen. You’re super confused because so are the characters, even they don’t know what it reality. Also to call a film “pretentious” when there are fart jokes is just way off. I can respect that you didn’t like it, but when you say things like you didn’t “enjoy” the movie, I think what you fail to realize is that not all movies are meant for you to enjoy yourself while watching it. It’s the same reason we have plays like Hamlet, or pictures of history that disturb us. These things aren’t things we “enjoy” but they last forever because that have a unique voice that makes us love them so much.

Dumbo put me in tears. I actually liked the remake.

I liked Dumbo more than Endgame... and that's not saying much, because they both sucked. Endgame, there's 3 hours I'll never get back.

The Nightingale is based on a young Irish convict woman living in 1825 colonial era Van Diemen's land (aka Tasmania) who goes on a revenge mission to kill the British officer who raped her and murdered her family and along the way she meets an Aboriginal man who helps her track down the British soldiers. It's about sexual and racial brutality in 19th century Tasmania

Your commentary on Black Christmas was.... In my opinion, problematic. Sure, it wasn't well done. Too in your face, bad script, bad acting, bad. But to say that "straight white males can't enjoy it" kinda outs you as a bit of a chud, and maybe you need to spend more time listening to that kind of agenda.

The Lighthouse is definitely not for everyone. I definitely understand why you wouldn’t like it. It’s really strange but it worked for me oddly. I totally don’t blame you for not liking the Lighthouse at all.

Good objectivity for The Nightingale. It's a very hard watch, especially the first 30mins but it's incredibly well made. I loathed the Babadook so was really surprised to see this is a movie from same director. As far as 'strong' female characters go, she's got to be one of the best I've seen in a movie. Incredibly real and believable. Comparing to I Spit On Your Grave is a bit far though as this movie has in no way an exploitation vibe.

I am so glad someone finally said The Nightingale sucked (although I have different reasons). My biggest problem is, the director does not do anything to establish time and place, which made the whole movie confusing.

Based on the accents, I assumed they were in Ireland. Then, when I saw tribes of color, I was like, "Oh. I didn't think they had people of color in Ireland. They must be in on the main island of Britain." I was confused during the whole film.

I had no idea they were in Australia, and it was dealing with the Aborigine tribes and this whole history of occupying British soldiers bringing Irish citizens to the island. So, the whole friggin movie made no sense to me.

And the ending and the revenge were both lame.

The moment I clicked on this, I KNEW black Christmas would be the worst. It was honestly the worst thing I have ever seen. I can’t imagine anyone, even people who support their over the top messages, liking this fucking movie.

Hellboy is absolute awful i couldn't get past 15mins insult to the Ron pearlman films they were great and deserve finishing. I kinda liked the fanatic.

You mean "Midsomar"? There is no movie called "Midsummer".

Greta and The Nightangle were pretty good imho. Yes Nightangle is a hard watch but its done well and Greta is a pretty decent thriller. I have been wanting to watch Serenity but just could not find the opportunity.

I saw the Lighthouse twice. I enjoyed the esthetics & performances. But I can completely understand why people either don't like it or hate it.
The Fanatic: Hot garbage. Maybe they will hire Eggers for the sequel. Again- great list.

Agreed on the Hellboy remake being utter shit (save for the actors trying their best).

The Nightingale was soooo disappointing. Went into it really excited to see it. It was supposed to be a movie that explored the brutality of European colonialism and racism, which it did but in the most unfortunately ham-fisted possible way. Instead of using an intelligent story with realistic and interesting themes it mostly just preached at you through badly-written character dialogue. The acting was pretty bad and the characters totally wooden. Felt like it had so much potential but fell flat.

I definitely agree with most of these takes, but still... why the hell is "Cats" not on this list?

As a father of an Autistic daughter the fanatic was one of the most insulting films I've ever seen ,never mind the fact the ending made no sense whatsoever 😂

Man I relly Liked Lighthouse and all it's batshit insanity. I get it's not for everyone , but considering Cody and I agree on many classic horror movies Eggers Lighthouse comes off as just bizarre and out there compared to a lot of most folks sensibilities.

Born in 97, The Lighthouse is the most overrated movie of my lifetime.

Dafoe and Pattinson are great actors. Giving Great performances… that doesnt equate to a 5star movie

i respect your opiion, everyone has its peculiarities and preferences, but the fact you disliked the nightingale, midsommar and lighthouse is absolutely insane, no hate. and i have to add, i can see lighthouse being a little too weird (i would agree as i tend not to like those movies either) same for midsommar altough a klittke less, but nightingale is just perfect balance of action and psychological horror, but well i guess its not for you

I'm disappointed you didn't like The Lighthouse. I didn't love it but in an industry that is so oversaturated with sequels, remakes and bad cgi, I enjoyed how strange and different its concept was, and I'll watch Willem Dafoe in anything.
I saw it in theaters and then again on Amazon Prime. I didn't really understand it but I very much enjoyed it.

Telling someone "they just dont get it" because theu didnt like a movie can be pretty dismissive but when it comes to the Lighthouse, and essentially, the Nightingale, yeah, it sounds like you didnt get it. Like hoping the Nightingale is some sort straight forward cathartic revenge tail is pretty incredible. Ive noticed when people take your point of view on movies like this they generally dont like themes, metaphor, drama & context when it comee to horror movies.
