In world news and current events today, this is the feminist song being sung by women around the world. The song called ‘A Rapist in Your Path,’ was first written and performed in Chile in November during national protests that called out the government for what many consider its inaction on vast social and economic inequality. Many women protesters chose to highlight the country’s high rate of sexual assault and rape.

It was originally written by Chilean feminist theater group, Lastesis, who said the protest version of their song went far beyond what they ever expected.

‘It was never intended to be a protest song – the women of the marches transformed it into something more’ - said Paula Cometa, speaking on behalf of the group to the Guardian

The lyrics were inspired by Argentine theorist Rita Segato who says that sexual assault and rape should be categorized as political topics rather than moral ones.
