u need to compare mangas and comics
ОтветитьI know there are some Western comics people always cite as "the greatest". But I don't feel like there's ACTUALLY a definitive and widely popular list of the greatest western comics.
If you look at Japanese Manga in comparison, there's a pretty clear cut list of the greatest works.
Whereas in the west you kind of have two different lists, one would be popularity, and the other would be quality of the work and the specific run.
This whole tradition of western comics to just make endless runs that never really conclude or when they do they are rebooted several times over makes it impossible to for instance reconcile the popularity of a character like Spider-man, and actually cite exactly WHICH of his comics and runs are legitimately GOOD all the way through.
In fact the two lists differ to such an extent that while you may find Spider-man at the top of popularity you will barely find any spider-man comics ACTUALLY at the top of stories.
There's also a massive problem with old stories, and old art becoming extremely outdated. The initial Spawn run for instance looks insanely amateur to the current comics.
This adds an additional category for the "best comics" of all time, which would be the "best for their time" category. Because MOST of these don't actually hold up.
One thing I really wish we'd see more of in DC and Marvel and other big comic IPs is remakes, not just reboots. But actual rewritten and repainted DEFINITIVE versions of the classical stories.
Modernized and adapted to modern quality, while retaining the foundation and classic stories to a large degree.
I feel like that would be such a great way to rejuvinate and basically honor the legacy stories.
While working somewhat like a movie adaptation, where you may cut, alter, improve designs etc to fit a higher quality definitive version with new art and everything.
Oh well.
I felt the entire age of apocalypse was very well, drawn and incredible story
ОтветитьA wide range of graphic novels will be coming from 2030!Guess who's making them!
ОтветитьUltimate spiderman
ОтветитьNot in the order:
The Nikopol Trilogy
The Metabarons
The Incal
My Favorite Thing Is Monsters
Franquin's Last Laugh
Blacksad
V for Vendetta
Maus
The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck
A Distant Neighborhood (Jiro Taniguchi)
Calvin and Hobbes
Hitler = SS
I don’t really get what everyone loves about Persepolis? I read the first book and wasn’t all that impressed. Didn’t even feel the need to read the second. It felt like though some wild things happened, and it is all biographical , nothing about how the story was told or drawn engaged me like I was with Maus.
ОтветитьWhere’s Berserk?
ОтветитьGreat list
ОтветитьI would have added "HAPPY!" By Grant Morrison
ОтветитьPersonally I would’ve added Lone Wolf and Cub and Iron Man Demon in a Bottle. Great list!
ОтветитьDC/Vertigo Slams
ОтветитьI would put Daredevil Born Again by Frank Miller
ОтветитьThe boys made the list? That’s surprising.
ОтветитьI would have to have Fatale in there somewhere
ОтветитьWatchmen - great choice for No. 1
ОтветитьProps for including Contract with God; I'd add Concrete and (likely many others) Dark Phoenix Saga

3. Claymore
4. Naruto
5. Bleach
