All that chaos of the other popular tourist areas doesn’t necessarily appeal to me, whereas somewhere like here would be more to my liking

After watching a few videos, Ueno stands our due to quiet location and not too crowded. Can you recommend some hotels there for 3 people?

What other areas of Tokyo or nearby that you recommend for quiet and less crowed near train station? We are not too crazy about busy city areas but will check them out.

We will fly in Narita Airport later in December, and look to say either at a hotel or airbnb. Will stay from Dec 23-30, so less than a week.

Like to visit Kyoto, Osaka, Nikko, Mt. Fuji and will buy JR Pass.

Thanks

Ueno has it all. A large park, a zoo, several museums, temples, a market, several character stores, several train lines connecting to it, closeness to other famous neighborhoods. When I go to Japan, I hope to get a hotel in the area. 😊

I'd love to stay in Ueno. My absolute favorite neighborhood in Tokyo. But, there are so many cheaper places in the city, I'll probably never stay there.

Ueno = expensive hotels that charge a lot compared to other areas.//If the Ueno Park swan boats are still there, it's fun to paddle/cycle around inside the boat with the ducks swimming up to you.

I love Ueno, too! Going there during sakura season is pretty neat! I went to Ueno Park, and there were so many food stalls and people viewing the flowers. I stayed in Akihabara, but Ueno is definitely a place I'd consider as well. I remember you mentioning a restaurant in Ameyokocho, and I ended up seeing it! Didn't get to visit, though. Maybe next year!

Can't agree,.... staying anywhere on the Tozai Line in the Tokyo outskirts will be cheaper and convenient ...even Chiba would be a good alternative and definitely much much less foreign tourists ...

I went to Ueno on my first trip to Japan and fell in love with it! Went back for three of my days there and on my second trip I went for one of the MyStays in the era! It was a GREAT choice. Tons of food and shopping opportunity and it's got plenty of its own attractions. Shout out to the small Shitamachi Museum and its crew of volunteers. Go give them a visit, it's worth it!

Ueno is beautiful. I had the pleasure of being in Ueno park for Hanami this year. It was wonderful! The zoo is incredible for the value as well. I think I will stay in Ueno next time I go to Tokyo. I'd recommend Tamachi for another good spot that's less quiet, however Ueno definitely has more things to see and do than Tamachi.

If I would stay in Tokyo, it would probably be Asakusa, a lot of good breakfast places. However I don't really go to Tokyo unless it cheap flight in and out of the country there.

Ueno Park was the first park I went to in 2009. It's a big area with a huge pond and cute paddle swan boats that attract cute ducks to swim near. Beautiful in the Sakura season. Temple. Alleys in Ueno that have many clothing & discount stores.
