What I do to combat bad thoughts is overcome them with “don’t pay attention to how bad it looks! Just let your hand glide!” I don’t know how to really explain it😂😭 but it dose help. I have became really prideful of some scratches because I did this.

i just dont feel like anythging has improved in my now 7 years. the only thing i havnt done is go to a class. i have so many books of how to draw many things but nothing works

Hey, a bit of an odd question, but how do I keep myself motivated to learn to draw, if I don`t like drawing.
I don`t have a passion for art, but I need to learn it so I could work on a project that I am passionate about. I love doing every other aspect of the project, but as for drawing, I don't really like it. And the free courses that everyone recomends (drawbox) make it 10 times more painfull. So what do you recomend for me to do?

this was really helpful, i've hit a block lately and i've been trying to find ways to get better. especially since i am so close to taking the first step towards becoming a concept artist! i am really stressed about it and its been leaving me feeling like i should give up and choose something easier. but i wont let that happen! i will continue to grow as an artist!

I'm late to this but one thing I've found that always motivates me in drawing is looking at my old art and comparing it to now and seeing what I've improved on. Helps me put it into perspective

im in a really difficult relationship with my art as i just finished my bachelor’s degree in art, but i still hate my art. i learned how to draw with realism and my best art is abstract but i just wanna draw cute anime girls 😭 my professors never taught about drawing in a cartoon style, so i never learned. i am going to become an art teacher soon, yet i can’t even draw in a cartoon style. my brain just keeps saying “what good is a teacher who can only draw in realism or abstraction?” its really rough. all i can do is keep practicing and learning so thats what im doing right now.

i’m pretty young and i only started actually trying to draw, watching tutorials, etc. like 2 weeks ago, but my hair has already gotten better. I just can’t find the right art style, and i have no motivation other then “i want to be able to shade properly, not just random grey spots in the general area that i think shadows are supposed to be”. i really can’t figure out how to color or shade, and that’s been making me stop immediately after i started.

Even tho I try my best not to I always been the one to compare myself specially with art, i adore so many different artists and you are one of them, however whenever I try to experiment with my own art it really doesn’t take long before I get frustrated and give up, I mean for example I really wanna learn anatomy however every time I decide to learn it I end up getting to annoyed by the mistakes and stuff, and I always try to tell myself I’m learning I need to be patient with my mistakes, but yet it gets more frustrating, I think my biggest problem is I always have some pretty high expectations on my art , so when it doesn’t reach them I get bothered by it and eventually break myself down, and this perfectionist inside of me always make me too frustrated to learn and too bad to draw, I hope some day I can conquer this part of me cuz I really really love art it’s my comfort hobby and I don’t want it to make me feel this way

Something that you mentioned that really helped me be sort of mildly ok with my art is the idea that pro artists definitely have a ton of files that they deleted because halfway through they didn't like any of it (I'm really just projecting but somewhere out there I believe (kind of) that there is a pro artist that is struggling in the same way I'm struggling). Just the idea that other people are failing too gives me motivation, which is kind of mean but it works? :p

This video makes me feel better. I just finished practicing digital art minutes ago and I am beginning to feel disappointed because i can't get the hair right and that threw me off and now i feel pressured that the art i made won't be good enough for me to start my art commissions😢

just looking at your art makes me more sad, art just makes me overthink, plus, when i post it online it only gets 10 likes..

it's not that i hate my artwork i love them but i hate doing art it is not the same anymore :(

every. single. thing. i draw. ugly. everything about it is bad. nothing is good. i never improve. i never can improve. i don’t even know why i’m bothering watching this. it’s not fun anymore. my art just sucks, nothing more.

i cant even get through the sketch without hating it and quitting

i try to watch videos to become better at.. well, EVERYTHING in art but it’s just too boring and long for me, and i know i’m just gonna waste my time watching a 19 minute video that i’m not gonna understand and that i’m not gonna remember, so i just leave immediately if i don’t feel entertained in the first few minutes.

I don't like my art style, I want to change it

Me: "because I started one night and now I've gone to deep to stop."

I don't compare myself to other artists, I compare myself to my old self, and I feel infuriated with how my skill regressed 😢

this was geniunley encouraging, hearing the "try different artstyles" advice actaully dramatically changed my view on how I should practice art.

literally the entire reason I started drawing and the reason i am where i am now(not very far but doin ok lol) is because i just wanted to draw simpable ocs… 💀💀💀
