Thanks for another interesting video. All good stuff. The Boys, Only Ones, P.I.L., Buzzcocks and X are personal faves of the bunch. If you like The Only Ones you should check out Peter Perrett's first band from 1972-73 called England's Glory. They sound like Only Ones but a bit rougher and not quite as developed. They didn't release anything at the time but in the 1980s two albums worth of recordings were released and a few of the songs later became Only Ones songs. Also, Peter Perrett released an album in the mid-1990s that's great and before the Pandemic released two more that are also great. That Boys album is my favorite of theirs, probably because it was the first of theirs I found and bought. Rue Morgue, Terminal Love and Lonely Cowboy are the best songs. Before the Boys Casino Steel was in a band called Hollywood Brats who had a limited album release in 1975. A couple songs on it became Boys songs. Honest John Plain released a great album 1996 and Duncan Reid has released 4 albums in recent years that all sound a lot like The Boys. Well worth a listen if you haven't heard any of these yet.
Ответитьsome awesome finds my friend teardrop explodes Kilimanjaro is one of my top favorite albums of all time and also my favorite Julian cope album is saint Julian and also a grail of mine to oh the boomtown rats debut is amazing and also funny enough the first 3 boomtown rats albums are produced by none other than Robert John mutt Lange public image Ltd debut what an album and if you dig that album Ive gotta recommend to you Patti Smith group Easter album it's become my favorite album as of late definitely check it out oh husker du candle apple grey great album again its been fun
ОтветитьA fabulous gift PIL for Anna.....best wishes.....
ОтветитьAmazing haul. Keith Levene is such an underrated guitar player. Like John Lydon once said, a band like U2 would never have existed without a nod and a wink to an early Public Image album.
ОтветитьGreat stuff Hanna. Saw the Buzzcocks at the Bottleneck in Lawrence...believe it was summer of '03. Was a dream come true. Congrats on the Durutti album, I'm still trying to find all of his stuff on CD. You have any For Against in your collection? Always wanted to see them live, but never made it up to Lincoln while they were still together. Story of my life! Bye for now.
ОтветитьI hope you have heard jehovakill by julien cope it's crazy good got it on CD in the ninetys.
ОтветитьH, Good PIL find. I got it when it came out at sound warehouse in sa.(uk import) and no poster🤨That Eno album just came into the store idk if it’s og or not, I may get it if it’s not too$$.
Any problems with the t table by the speakers? Mines set up like that but the t tables on a 15x15 brick with rubber stick on pads sitting on the kallax. No vibrations.☮️❤️
Cool hauls. I like your Talking Heads t-shirt. "Another Green World" is my favorite Eno album. I picked up the reissue on 45 rpm that came out a couple of years ago. I love the Only Ones' first two albums. "Another Girl, Another Planet" was covered by the Replacements. I need to check out the Blake Babies.
ОтветитьGreat period, great albums! Good to hear you’re on the mend
ОтветитьCool redo on your listening room. Another Green World was a step in a new direction for me, got me listening to more obscure stuff. It is one I always listen to all the way through. You have great taste, and I've watched for a couple years now, sorry I only just subscribed. BTW ,Does Jeff Kempkin do videos anymore? Peace!
ОтветитьHi Hannah, you certainly have purchased some classic records there - well done, or did you raid my collection when I wasn't looking? I recommend that you get MBV's You Made Me Realise EP which is expensive but totally worth it. There is also apparently an unofficial release with Feed Me With Your Kiss EP on the b-side.
Cheers, Paul
Love Julian Cope ! BUG !!! Awesome..Yeah.. Lou was gone after that LP..Gonna look for that Boomtown Rats. I liked everything you showed on this one Hanna..
ОтветитьYour UK press Kilamanjaro was a later release. The original release in the UK was the same as your US release cover.
ОтветитьNice haul, good P.I.L. pick up, and I love the lights in the new music room. If you get a chance look up Dan Vapid and the Cheats. They usually fall under midwest punk, but to me its power pop perfection. Their latest record just came out on vinyl and it may be my fav for this year so far.
ОтветитьKilimanjaro is such an awesome Post Punk/Neo psychedelia album,I own two copies of Eno’s Another Green World, one is a Canadian pressing which isn’t in fantastic shape the other is a nice clean reissue with an obi strip.I’ve been meaning to get on board the Kate Bush Bandwagon, the last time I was at the record store I saw a few of her albums that still regret passing up but I know I’ll get around to having her music in my collection eventually..fantastic finds Hanna, take care! ✌️😎🎶
ОтветитьThe Only Ones sound like Soft Machine and by default Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians. If you like The Only Ones you'll love Robyn.
ОтветитьGreat finds. You should definitely get The Dreaming. For me it has that 'punk spirit'. Kate is a true pioneer. Love the Blake Babies album. Would love that on vinyl...
ОтветитьI’ve tried to be a Kate Bush fan but even now she just doesn’t do it for me. I might try again. Absolutely love the music room. I have very few colored vinyl. They seem ok. My son bought me a picture disc of Sergeant Peppers two years ago. For some reason I haven’t spun it yet. Maybe that will change.
ОтветитьGreat haul. That just doesn't happen here in NZ :( The Only Ones were so fine, John Perry's guitar playing is top notch. There is a great Peel Sessions album that I only have on CD which has some really great versions of most of the songs on that Special View comp. The Boomtown Rats don't get much love these days but they were big news in the UK back in the day. I really like both that album that you have and their second, Tonic for the Troops of which I have a Singapore press which according to discogs doesn't exist lol
ОтветитьHey Hanna, I am always on the lookout for new bands to listen to. I love all of the music of my generation, but I am not stuck in the past. Can you recommend 10 bands from the last 20 years, that I should check out?
Here are some for you:
1) The Chats
2) The Coathangers
3) The Fabulous Downey Brothers
4) Tacocat
5) wimps
6) Teenage Bottlerocket
7) Starcrawler
8) Cam Cole
9) Sleaford Mods
10) Dream Wife
Cool stuff, also check out Public Image’s second album Metal Box, the first album is good but Metal Box (aka Second Addition) is even better
ОтветитьDo you have a list of the gear you play/listen with?
ОтветитьDinosaur Jnr,Massive fan got that album on vinyl, recommendation for you, your living all over me.Really like your posts, great vinyl collection.
ОтветитьGreat records, many of which I used to own myself. Because you appear to have such impeccable taste for the bands from my era, makes me want to check out the younger artists you present here that I have haven't heard of.
ОтветитьJust became aware of your sight and love it! I'm a big Eno fan and Another Green World may be my favorite album of all time! Excellent choices with X's first album, Buzzcocks ep and The Only Ones too. About the later, I would describe them as a bit in the Television style minus the guitar jams.
ОтветитьHow old are you really??...ha,ha....Kilimanjaro and Cocteau Twins....this is weird. But good!
ОтветитьDinosaur Jr & Hüsker Dü!!
ОтветитьOMD great album
ОтветитьSpiral Scratch! I grabbed that in Lawrence, Kansas in 1981 -- still have and love it. Lawrence was a weird little hotbed of punk fervour back then, thanks to KU and their college radio station. Good times -- I haven't lived there since '82.
Robert Christgau thinks Another Green World is Eno's best album, and a lot of fans seem to agree. I can't go along with this -- of his first four "vocal" solo records, I think it's his "worst" (they're all great, duh). And 801 Live is a must-have -- have you got it? The Eno & The Winkies bootlegs are interesting, although I don't recommend the vinyl, and The Winkies one album without Eno is outstanding (recycling some Eno riffs). My original copy had a pressing mistake, though, so I'd look for a Japanese release.
Forgot to mention Hanna. I may have commented slightly ambiguously because you misinterpreted my comment. I agreed with your Wire pick for your list. Separately I mentioned that a great album was a compilation of different early punk bands called the "The Rare Stuff" includes: the Cure, The Saints, The Flys, Rich Kids, etc. It was an early acquisition that helped me explore the burgeoning scene. I sold all my records. That was one of them.
ОтветитьPublic image one good score not in to the others but very interesting credit to your gen onya peace and love lloydy
ОтветитьYou ain't nothin' to you have heard ''Shortnin' bread by the Cramps!
ОтветитьAnyone who loves Eno’s Another Green World is on my short list of favorite people. Bless you Hanna for sharing your time.
ОтветитьI saw Public Image Ltd in concert back in the 1980s. They played here in New Zealand, and it was one of the best gigs I have been to. John Lydon played up to the audience. And it was very loud. I like Brian Eno, Before and after Science from 1977 is a good listen if you have that album. Boomtown Rats I like. Looking after Number one is my favorite song of theirs. Love the Buzzcocks music, I was a Punk Rocker in the 1970s. I had a spiky red dyed color hairstyle. I'm now in my sixties and have little hair, and its grey in color. Thanks for your interesting posting. From Carl.
ОтветитьI Am The Cosmos. Nice
ОтветитьIf you haven’t, definitely pick up Enos’ Apollo soundtrack 😍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ОтветитьENO! Love the ambinet years, On Land-Ambient 4, its more of a sound scape/ sound collage, also his art rock/post punk era is amazing: Taking Tiger Mountain, Here Come The Warm Jets and Before and After Science. Cocteau Twins, so many great emotions from them, just love them beyond words.
ОтветитьA couple of pretty obscure punk/post punk: Instigators - Full Circle EP (1987) and Shock Gun (1989) And Honor Roll - Rictus
ОтветитьGREAT haul! Why the discontent with colored vinyl?
ОтветитьYour so amazing, how did some one so young your age get into and discover sutch a cool and diverse taste in music?
Really liked your channel,ya I'm also a big who fan!
I'm not commenting on this your video content right now I just want to say a little bit about your taste in music I mean every time I watch one of your videos it just blows me away like wires one of my favorite bands I like the fall quite a bit they're one of my favorite bands a lot of the stuff that you bring up from the '80s and stuff I'm like and you're like oh this is great I really like it I'm like you're so I mean how do you it's just amazing anyway oh there's so much groups man and there's so many good records talk to twins Dead can dance oh shoot echoing the bunnymen's like one of my favorite bands somebody dance the swans how about some of the more experimental stuff to anyways anything from Rock to punk to alternative you pretty much have a good eclectic and wide variety of good stuff and I just like watching just to see what you're going to pull up I haven't seen all your videos but every time I watch one of your videos I discovered another cool record that you have that I am also enjoy keep up the good work
ОтветитьCoctou twins, herald bud,Dead can dance,Echo and the bunnymen, generation x the saints, XTC dukes of stratosphere you have to find the albums by The dukes of stratosphere you have to it's a must, the legendary pink dots, by the way try cleaning your records get invest in something to clean your records if you buy a record and it's really noisy pretty much cleaning will help but it's not a guarantee so you need to really clean your records before you judge you the record for being noisy because it's just probably maybe dirty so to clean you know it says clean your records man have a good day
ОтветитьPublic Image Ltd, great band... as a youngster, I loved Sex Pistols because "punk"... then I got older and realize that Public Image Ltd is way more interesting
ОтветитьQuite the haul! Have you heard the Only Ones 'Peel Sessions' comp? Really worth checking out, it gives a hint of what a great live band they were.
ОтветитьWow those are my two favorite albums lately. Those two and Roxy music's; For Your Pleasure album.
ОтветитьI like the Jam's version of the Beattles song ;Slow Down
ОтветитьHave you heard of the Sugar Cubes?
ОтветитьI think we have exactly the same taste in music. Another Green World is one of my favorite albums of all time. Keep doing what you are doing!
ОтветитьSoundtrack recommendation for you if you haven’t checked it out yet. Fuck Your Dreams This is Heaven. Minimal Compact, Niki Mono, Peter Principle.
