Metallica: The Small Hours (Leipzig, Germany - May 7, 2009)

The Small Hours and War Pigs are alot of the reason I picked up a guitar in the 80's. I still play both from time to time to remember where it all started for me and guitar.

why didn't they cut to kirk during the solo??

😮what's with Lars intro slowing down on the drums.

That beginning was pretty rough, but once they got to the main riff, it all smoothed out.

Hey Metallica, you want another song from the 5,98$ EP you haven't played in even a longer time than this one? Crash Course in Brain Surgery (not played since 1987).
However, this performance of the Small Hours being the last one you did, it's now 14 years since you haven't played it...
Do you guys sometimes check out your rotation of the songs among the years?
Because there's nearly 1/3 of the songs you recorded on album that haven't been played in the last 10 years (or for some of them, not even played them live at all...)
Don't you think the 72 Season tour (which looks great so far btw!) is the time to have a good attic clean up, and have some of these songs taking the dust for so many years and put them back, at least for 1 show, up front on the stages?

Fack, never knew they did this live, one of the heaviest Tallica toonz ever, cover or original. Heaviest on an album, sounds like they are using their regular tuned guitars, orig its in D, can get away w/ drop D, but tuned down whole step edit

As a long time fan of MOP, and Metallica in general, I can't help but love the darkness of this song. It reaches in and grabs my soul and plays with it like Hetfield strumming an awesome rhythm from his guitar. Very difficult to describe but it's a great kick ass trigger for me. Much like a lot of Metallica's music. Of all their studio albums, Master of Puppets is, hands down, the best effing album they ever did. It's the only album of theirs where I love every song on it. Gives me very fond memories of Cliff, even though I never knew him. Wasn't Cliff the one who was into HP Lovecraft and the Cthulu mythos? Probably why I've always been intrigued by it and the Great Old Ones.
