But is there an automatic way to convert audio kicks to midi notes and have them perfectly aligned right off the bat? I usually have to go manually over each hit and double check.

Studio One users use Option + N, or Alt+N on windows. If it's not ProTools i think all DAWs can do this.

Cubase alows u to normalise whole audio track without needing to slice it up.

CakeWalk has been doing all of that for years.
