Interesting to recall that for the first half or more of the 20th century Rachmaninoff was often considered an old retro-Romantic, so
unenlightened in the age of the exciting original modern composers.
His music is now a mainstay of the repertoire.

I feel guilty listening to this. It tugged at my heart strings. Usually I feel the music and move my body or something but it was so majestic I couldn't even move. Just hold my breath in awe. Indescribably beautiful I think this has just became my favourite piece ( 2nd time ever listening to the piece )

Paginini’s greatest accomplishment was writing a piece for Rachmaninov to play backwards.

Fun fact: This one is uses the Paganini theme upside-down.

This mofo Rachmaninov is really something else, no words could describe him, and calling him a genius is an understatement.
Paganini was a genius, but Rachmaninov really put live to this masterpiece.

I like Daniil's rendition of this piece the most! He truly feels what this music is about

First time hearing Daniil Trifonov playing and I was amazed. I paid attention to the details (e.g. tempo, emotional expression, etc.) and this is one of the best version of the Variation 18.

Trifonov plays with his entire body and soul. We are so lucky to be here in his lifetime.

Variation 18 is so hauntingly beautiful, the rest of the Rhapsody is uneventful in comparison. His 2nd piano concerto is a better composition as a whole... the finest concerto of all, may I say
