I've seen so so many reactions to Hange's death and I sob watching every single one. Their death will never not be devastating.

I feel like I’m the only person who’s completely and totally unsatisfied with the way AOT the anime ended, and was totally satisfied by the manga ending. I see countless videos about how terrible the manga ending was, and nothing about the anime.

I love the way Jean still cared about Floch tbh. It shows how hard this was on everyone and how none of this was done out of a hatred for each other. Floch did what he did to protect /everyone/ on the island, even if it was sometimes too far and unhinged. Jean is the perfect person to see and understand that. It's like with Daz and Samuel, how none of that was done out of hatred toward their old friends. It makes everything that much emotionally gripping. There's no real blame between the former Scouts when they have to kill each other. The way Floch /begs/ them not to stop the Rumbling as he's dying instead of begging to be saved, etc shows just how much this meant to him and that he genuinely, truly believed in the cause he fought for. Also, I know Carter mentioned that they were all together since the timeskip, but they knew each other since they were trainees in season one; we just hadn't met Floch yet. He already knew everyone and was the person who noticed they were all "different" at that point. That means he knew them most likely since episode 3.

Idk how I feel about so many adult characters being killed off. In some cases I can understand it, but in a lot of cases I feel like it could've been avoided entirely. Like, Mike's death was kinda dumb imo lol. Shadis feels like he did what he did just to be written off. Hange I feel like is a mix of "just needed a huge dramatic death" and "maybe this was necessary for the plot". Fwiw though I'm not a Hange fan (I don't hate her by any means, but she's easily not in my top favorites and never has been) and her death was still really impactful and upsetting. The first time I saw it in the manga was hard, but the anime studio really outdid itself with this episode. Still though, I'm glad she got to go out how she wanted to and doing something she loved, rather than having a painful and suffering death like most characters (like Marco). Not every character got to go out on their own terms.

Also, I love how Levi always reverts to killing Zeke as the solution. It shows his development a heck of a lot imo. When he first met Eren he was ready to kill him at any given moment if necessary, but he's grown close to him and that's not so easy anymore. Now that the time has come to decide if he would really do that, he keeps deflecting and putting priority on killing Zeke. If they just kill Zeke, the Rumbling would stop and Eren would survive. If there's another option that's not killing Eren, it's what Levi defaults to. Levi's development has been extremely subtle but so amazingly done. You look back at season 1 and see how distant he used to be. His new squad means the world to him now, Eren included, and it shows a lot more than how we'd see him portray emotion before. It's difficult for him to kill even a single member of his squad, so at every possible opportunity, he picks whatever option /won't/ lead to that. He's also lost so, so, so many allies and friends that he probably just wants it to stop and doesn't want even one more to die. He started deflecting about killing Eren earlier in this season too, defaulting to "if I just kill Zeke". It feels like a really emotional thing coming from Levi, like a sort of desperation to /not/ kill someone dear to him. Also, Eren was the very first person in the current squad who was officially part of his old squad, and they were both the only survivors. Losing Eren would mean having to go through losing his entire squad all over again for technically the third time (if you consider his previous squad having died "sort of" counting Eren as a member not but fully?). Like, man, I think Levi's been through too much shit at this point lol. He doesn't want to see anymore death nor have a hand in it.

Like idk I just love Levi's development and how subtle it was, but how looking back you can see the absolute strides he's made emotionally. Also, his hatred for Zeke has lasted /years/ at this point because of all the people Zeke killed. He used to think death was just part of the job at some point in his life, and it feels like he's come back around to having the feelings he had back in his OVA like that part of him was restored with these people in his life and he doesn't want to lose that again, but Zeke took a chunk of that away. By killing Zeke, he'd get rid of one of his most hated enemies but also save someone who he cares about.

And yeah, Eren doesn't /want/ to do what he's doing (not saying this as spoilers you don't know, don't worry!). Marley put him between a rock and a hard place. Either all his friends and loved ones are killed by all of humanity outside the wall, or he tries to protect them in the only way possible at that point. He doesn't /want/ to kill people. There's a reason he told Zeke to wait before screaming. He didn't want Falco to get caught up in everything. Even if Eren considered that Falco could turn and eat a shifter to be saved, he cared about Falco enough that he didn't want him to endure that life as well as that /shortened/ life. Eren is trapped between two horrible decisions. He couldn't have gone with Zeke's original plan either, because even if his people were unable to have kids and they'd all eventually die out, that doesn't save them from overseas enemies who would /still view them as devils who need to die/. It doesn't ensure any kind of safety whatsoever. It does, ultimately, nothing for the Eldians living on the island. Eren didn't just up and decide "well, guess I'll kill them for hating us", and I wish more people saw and understood that. It's reeeeally not black and white like that.

Anyway, I'm just over here pretending all the animals managed to escape and got away safely. :D Let's just say there weren't many there to begin with in the areas that got hit, and any that were there all escaped safely, and maybe even eventually found homes with the people who survived/reunited with their families who survived.

This is the fifth time I've seen this, but Hange's battle scene brings tears to my eyes with bravery and power. The BGM of this scene "Bauklötze" is a song from Hiroyuki Sawano's album in 2013, when season 1 of Attack onteki anime started. It's the coolest to use the song from season 1 from 10 years ago!!!!!

I think the reason why Eren is shown as a child, during the telepathic talks, is because Eren never stopped being that hurt and traumatized child from his mother's death. It was there when all that hatred was born, and he mixed it with the lack of freedom in which he was born (because in front of his eyes there was always a great wall). Eren could never heal all that pain, that's why he is still a child suffering constantly. This is actually something that can be applied to anyone, especially when one has childhood trauma. One can be a 40-year-old adult, but at the slightest smell, memory, taste, that unhealed trauma from your childhood triggers. That 40-year-old adult is going to find himself unable to compose himself, to stand up; Faced with a threat that no longer exists, that only exists in his childhood, in the past, in his memories.

I mean I understand Eren… the entire world was coerced into taking a fight against Eldia. In real life, if the entire world declared war on one country, it would be nuked to hell with no survivors. If a young kid knew that would happen in the future and had the power to destroy the world, he totally would.
