What are your expectations for becoming a remote software developer? Did this video give you any insight into the process?

Can't drive. Gotta walk miles to work or pay up the ass for rides in a town where Uber and Lyft don't exist. Be nice to not have to do those

My first job as Node's is remote. It's startup and we develop mobile game for international market. At the beginning I was paid only 500$ (I'm from Eastern Europe). My team lead was mentoring me through multiple calls throughout day with a lot of pair coding - sometimes I code and he looks at my screen, sometimes I look as he do it. Since 8 months I've become sole developer at backend, team lead on my own :) So everything is possible.

I found a remote job as my first company as a web dev. they hired me as a nextjs/node/flutter developer but I only know a little bit or react and vuejs. I think you just need to apply more.

I live in Bolivia (south america) I don't have a US citizenship but I really wish to work in a US company as a web developer, I truly enjoy coding, have excellent English and I'm working really hard to become a good developer. A remote job would give me the chance to have a great quality life in my small, cheap and underdeveloped country so I'd rather not move. So in a post covid world, 2 years after this video... does anyone have a similar experience or goals to mine? Is it possible or easier to accomplish this than 2 years ago? Anybody have any tips? I would truly appreciate any help I can get, thank you in advance!

Wait i thought you just said many companies are not going to hire you if you don't have experience? Well many companies are hiring remote software inginiering with no degree just check at Indeed or LinkedIn....also for Americans are many jobs hard because they are lazy but for others is not hard because we work hard.

I started working from home back in 2017 when it wasn’t a common thing.
The most difficult part of it as a newbie, is to get noticed and to define schedules
I agree that everyone must start working in-person or at least hybrid type of work so you can get knowledge from others and acquire good habits before you go full remote

I'm good either way. I prefer to be in a career field where my options expand as my abilities expand. I'm an American. My wife is Filipina. We have our home 🏡 in the Philippines 🇵🇭. We prefer living there. America is a mess in almost every way politically. And politics have a direct impact upon every aspect of life for families 👪. I'm flexible out of the gate. But I do hope to transition away from employee status to contractor ASAP.

I have been trying, things aren't working out yet. I think, I'm going to follow your approach on the process.

Thanks :-)

I honestly got interested because it pays well and I've programmed before. I've always been tech savvy, especially being born in 2001 so I've grown up with technology all around me. Also the field allows for location flexibility with it being an always in demand job so I can general find a job anywhere I desire to move to.

Remote working is a perk that I'd love to have down the line. I think getting some experience in a physical office would help better improve my skills since I'd be new in the field. But I do really well with remote work in general so after I get some experience, I'll definitely be moving on to remote work down the line

First ever programming job starting next week and I have complete freedom to choose where I want to work. Feels pretty good. My home setup is pretty good for programming, and an internship I had before and during the pandemic taught me that I am much happier working from home. Plus no 30 minute commute means I'll have a lot more free time each day. Since I don't eat breakfast, I can literally wake up two minutes before my work starts.

When you said in the beginning that this video was about to give me a "Reality Check" i almost got desperate, fearing you would say it isn't possible or feasable. But i am very happy right now, as the only inhibitition is that it may just take longer time. 1 or 2 years of working on site to get experience is nothing if the result is a lifetime of freedom. I have SAD so i want to move to a warm and sunny country, and remote work will allow me to do that. Plus, i actually also love software and being creative so that is another bonus!
