you are either a BWP person or a still life person

im a still life person all the way, because i love concept albums
they have had a mini concept album era with my arms your hearse and still life, and i consider still life their prime from early era, and the turning point to the prog metal era (from BWP to watershed)

A — My Arms Your Hearse, Still Life, Damnation, Deliverance
B — In Cauda Venenum, Sorceress
C — Heritage, Morningrise
D — Orchid, Pale Communion

My first Opeth album was Damnation. Yeah, I was confused.

My tier ranking:
No/Boring: In Cauda Venenum, Sorceress, Orchid
Good: Heritage, Deliverance, Pale Communion, Watershed
Excellent: Blackwater Park, Watershed, Ghost Reveries
Classic: Still Life, Morningrise, Damnation

Almost 100% agreed, but I do feel more love for "Heritage" than most people, I guess.

The sounds of Damnation are in big part to be credited to Steven Wilsson, the genius behind Porcupine Tree's original and wonderful sound! Love both bands so much

This guy is a Pansy. The first two albums are great. "My Arms" is a classic.

I don't care what anyone thinks, I wouldn't put any of the 2010s albums above Orchid and Morningrise. Both are bangers.

Pale Communion is ok, In Cauda Venenum is ok, Heritage and Sorceress are boring.

Morningrise is criminally underrated. But bear in mind this is coming from the guy who called some of Pink Floyd's greatest works 'bloated' and 'a boring slog'.

it's interesting, because Orchid is a masterpiece, and MAYH is literally the best album ever made xD But I understand everybody has the right to be wrong

I used to dislike Sorceress back when it came out, but have been listening the living shit out of it in the past 3 days. Other interesting thing is that back then I was way more into prog metal than rock, with today being the opposite.

IDK why i'm here a year late, I'm not even an Opeth fan.

Blackwater Park is the most overrated Opeth album. Don’t get me wrong, it was the album that got me into the band and it is definitely their most accessible but now that I have refined my taste in metal it sounds like Duncan Sheik doing death metal.

One track off Orchid is easily better than all of Dream Theater's albums combined. lol!

I find it funny people defending Orchid in this comment section when I'm pretty sure I've heard Mikael say in an interview he thinks there first 2 albums are "pretty shit"
