gloves of archery are good but i found gloves that increase my DEX to 18 no matter what my DEX really is!! so i went to withers and took my dex down to 1, and used those points to max out WIS and boost a few other stats for my saves. and the gloves work, i still have a DEX of 18!!!

After playing 100+ hrs I can safely say this is my favorite Shadowheart build. Thank you for this guide! 😁

Which companion would you recommend for support/healer if using this build with shadowheart?
It's my first playthrough and my tav is a tiefling circle of moon drood (had no idea the first act was going to be so heavy on droods and tieflings), and I currently also have Karlach and Wyll in my party and would prefer to keep karlach in the party.

One problem is that she can't use Bless and Pass without a Trace at the same time.

Is this a good build for a support caster?

Why shadowheart have bless spell even if she it not life domain? She also has command spell, which is under knowledge domain.. Does every origin character have access to all skill?

I cannot see myself ever picking astarion over shadowheart as my rogue

If you respec her into a rogue won't that ruin her story arc stuff seeing as she isn't cleric anymore?

I didn't get pass without a trace at lv 3 on Shadowheart.

Interesting build. I always like to rock 2 sneaky ranged characters (my Tav is a ranger/rogue), one melee attacker (my Lae'zel is OP af), and a character who buffs and heals my party. If Shadowheart buffing/healing my party while taking a ranged role, that gives me room to add one more element to my party. Perhaps I'll add Gale to the mix to cast me some powerful magic.

It’s a great build, but I personally prefer not taking the thief route and taking 5 levels in gloom stalker instead for extra attack and misty step. With 7 levels in trickery domain, she at least gets access to lv. 4 spells (just one slot though), and you have a few more domain spells to play around with. I’ve found this to be a better option if one also likes to melee with her, but I do find cleric in general to be tough to build for. I mean, I kinda don’t want to push her into a finesse weapon route and just dual wield maces, which is why the +3 to initiative from Gloom Stalker is a necessity.

Can I build Astorian like this build?

This build looks like a good attempt to salvage a bad, but I think I'd rather go for 2 cleric & 10 rogue instead to have the extra feat. or even 1/11 for reliable talent. At which point the cleric level is no more than a reminder where Shadowheart once started.

This is great. Another good option for a ranged build that is also thematic: Light Cleric 7 / Gloomstalker 5. Got a light vs darkness flavor, good ranged attack, good mix of offense and support casting.

I know you are technically still correct, but it made me chuckle you went: 'this guide is for people who don't want to change Shadowheart's Trickery Domain subclass' and then went: 'step 1: respec into a Rogue'.

I just gave her 1 level as Rogue because of the skills, rest went full Cleric.

My biggest issue is with sneaking in general. There are many many situations where it's difficult if not impossible to get to an area outside the enemies' line of sight to hide. The game also loves to spawn enemies on top of you or attack you on a failed dialogue check. If you don't want to go full murder hobo and just kill every living thing you come across, sneak is weak an awful lot of the time. Compared to a two-weapon rogue hitting flanked enemies, it's just way too situational and the damage output just isn't that great compared to strategies that are more reliable.

How do you start off as rogue (1lvl) hop over to cleric (3lvls) and then back to leveling rogue again? If I follow that order I cannot go back to leveling up my rogue class. The cleric class is automatically continually leveled up instead. Also the rogue specific stats you suggested at the start are not applied in the second part of the video anymore, the later footage. Kinda confusing.

I am pretty new - can anyone help me understand how one can make ranged attacks into darkness as shown here without Devils Sight? When I try this even with dark vision races I have Disadvantage

Wonderful guide option, i hate Astarion. I did go War Cleric instead of Trickery...gives you more attacks which is very cool.

I went down the same line of thought, but backwards. I needed a utility character and a Cleric so I had respeced Shadowheart to 1 lv Rogue, then 5 lvs trickery Cleric, then 2 more Rogue for Cunning action and thief which is where I am at. Being able to Dash and even cunning action dash to get spirit guardians to where it needs to be has been useful. but Cleric Support and spirit guardians firepower has been strong in its own right despite not having massive sneak attack.

I had some interesting prolonged fights with spirit guardians active, spiritual weapon giving flank for a sneak attack then using cunning action to disengage as well as dash and run through mobs of enemies racking up AoE with said guardians.

We need more companion guides this is very helpful. Also a Ranger guide please.

TLDR lore friendly Longbow Thief, 5 Gloom stalker/ 1 trick Cleric/ 6 Thief Rogue.

My Shadow Heart spec had her respec, taking 1 level of ranger first for longbow proficiency, then 1 trick cleric, 3 rogue into thief, up to 5 gloom stalker, then finish at 6 rogue. There are quite a few good longbows in the game, starting with the spell thief super early for more heals. then the endgame legendary bow fits right in.

I will try this next playthrough, had her as a frontline (war) with a dip in Paladin

Many thanks for your build, I always intended to play origin's character with their normal class for roleplay reason, and since I dislike astarion your build guide is just perfect for me.
For those like me who like to keep the starting class of origin's character, I found that wyll can be extremely powerfull either as a warlock 2/ bard 10, or a warlock 5 (pact of blade)/fighter. Do notice, that the extra attack from the pact of blade warlock stack with the extra attack from martial class, meaning that you get quite a wide variety of strong build in order to adapt wyll to your party (ranger/bard of sword/paladin.... can all work very well).

Is there any Issue with her Story/personal Quests when doing Rogue as the Main Class and Cleric second?

I noticed Sanctuary says 10 turns, but you said it was 1 turn. Am I misunderstanding?

Yes, this is perfect for those of us who want to RP with her as she was originally created. Most if not all other guides I've seen have her respec'd in major aspects. But with a few minor tweaks to her at Level 1 as Fextra has described, I'm all too happy to ditch Asterion!

never thought about turning shadowheart into a rogue.. thats so nice.. still in my current party i would prefer her as support and tank

I really like this build for RP too, especially after seeing the gauntlet and Shar's tenants. I don't really like to alter origin characters classes if it doesn't make sense with their questlines, but building her this way arguably makes even more sense with it. Thanks for guide!

I went 5 cleric/2rogue/ rest cleric. I am lvl 10 atm. Feels perfect. Higher level cleric spells are so good! 2 rogue for extra bonus action options are a great fit for her imo. Doesnt even seem like its worth it going for 3, but u could ofc (if u wanna use hide more especially).
Early game i felt like sh really lacked bonus action options and mobility. So 2 rogue solves that.
Spirit guardians + bonus action dash is so fun. . hide as well, situationally.
Btw: My char is a dual wielding gloom/thief/fighter, i am doing all the rogue stuff. Great char. Great dmg+proficencies+scouting.
Sh is tank/sup with a few aoe dmg spells. She so versatile.
She can tank well, some healing/buffs, some great aoe if u use these spells well (feels very rewarding).
I highly recommend playing her like this.
Next playthrough, if she gonna be in my party (probably will pick Minthera instead), i'll give her 7 cleric/5 ranger(gloom). That seems a lot better then this video's roguebuild imo. But so many ways to build/play. Just gotta find out whats most fun for u. And that is also really fun.

I would love to see you make a similar guide for all the companions, because honestly I have no idea how to build characters in this game, and from what I know, a main character build and a companion build can be quite different for a subclass (a lot of guides recommend giving utility spells such as sleep to someone like Gale and not Tav, for example)
