Let's talk about testosterone. The Galveston Diet and Mary Claire Wellness are all curated FOR the menopausal woman. This is our specialty. Hormone replacement therapy is important during this stage of a woman's life if done CORRECTLY. We are not little men. We are not supposed to have the same amount of testosterone as men. It is simply a small replacement. Many physicians overdose testosterone and it is unacceptable. If this feels like it could be happening to you, here are links to help you learn to talk to your physician.

- About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.

Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.

As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.

The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition.

My hormone doctor says a testosterone number is useless without a sex hormone binding globulin test (SHBG). She put me on testosterone gel and my testosterone number shot up to 148. When I freaked out about it, she said my SHBG number was so high, it was binding up most of my free testosterone and I was still considered to be low in testosterone. No one ever seems to talk about this SHBG number in relation to calculating true testosterone level. I go to the top hormone specialist docs in AZ, BTW. That’s all they do, hormones. Took me a year to even get in for an appointment. So don’t start freaking out if your testosterone is high. If you don’t have a SHBG test and calculation done, it means nothing.

If a person desires to transition, wouldn't the amount of T they are receiving be unhealthy for their female endocrine sys? Your comment about a possible tumor over 90 gave me pause cuz I wondered how it could be horrible for a woman to be at 250+T level but then at the same second it be OK if they wanted to transition. I love your content and usually (always!) find your ideas so logical. This one has me stumped 😮

I’m only 31 but I really appreciate seeing this now. I need to get ready to advocate for myself because the healthcare system doesn’t give two craps about women’s health unless she’s pregnant or trying to get pregnant. We really have no other function in their eyes I guess. I’ve been turned away by (FEMALE) gynos for my hormonal imbalances because I’m not actively trying to conceive. Do anything I struggle with can be handled by my GP apparently, even though HE WAS THE ONE TO REFER ME TO A GYNO. I can’t imagine how much worse it gets with menopause when they know they can’t make a fortune off you for fertility treatments.

Holy shit that's like a man with around 2700 Ng/dl levels as women have about 10 times the sensitivity to androgens that men do.

both my progesterone and testosterone were extremely low when I had them tested...I've been doing progesterone on my own since you can just get it at the store, it's made me feel a million times better (no more migraines!!!) and now I want to start on T, but I just want a tiny, baby dose...seems like that shouldn't be so difficult to get?

I was overdosed. My level was 568. I spent so much money going to multiple doctors and having imaging tests done because of the bad symptoms it gave me. I thought I was dying. After seven months my level is finally in range but now my estrogen is 250 when it was only 40 before. :(

i don't have treatment. our issue is genetics. my mom had cyst on the tummy, my dad on the neck, my bro on his breast, mine is on the knee. It was very painful when it gets bump. I'm not sure about testosterone but I do have pcos on right ovary. i was always hungry as well, i eat like a dinosour when I was young. but my body is super skinny, my lower is the fat part. kinda a broom shape, stick body and thick leg and thighs.

I went to a noby GYN they asked me why I was there. I told them that I felt I was in perimeter pause and I was concerned that I should get all my levels checked before even doing any exam whatsoever, she said will then let me write you a prescription for estrogen. I said why in God's name? Would you prescribe me something without even knowing what my body levels are? It's a sad reality that doctors are just about writing prescriptions and trying to push depression and anxiety medication instead of actually doing the work.

I knew a woman who was a “natural” healthcare specialist. She had pellets implanted and the only reason I knew is because I was her massage therapist and she told me to avoid the area due to the pellets in her glutes. She was always normal and friendly before but I noticed a significant change in her personality after the pellet thing as she saw me for treatment once per week. Let’s just say the change was not a change for the better and she was like a different Haughty type personality after some time. Some of her employees I worked on also quit working for her because of it.

HRT is usually not prescribed to women in India , I went asking my Gynaecologist and she refused. My homeopath also was not in favour of HRT ... I assume because of the presumed side effects and the careful monitoring of dosage it needs...
