wait....people hated this?
ОтветитьI'll be honest, I wasn't super interested in watching the show at first. I thought it was just going to be the exact same plot again, told slightly better than the film.
Knowing that it's actually a completely different story I might actually give it a go.
i loved this series and before watching i thought it was a straight up adaptation. like i misremembered the fact that the end of ep 1 doesn’t happen in the comics which is pretty stupid of me but made the first two episodes seem like a completely different show for me.
I loved the animation and the music so so much and the voice acting was good too.
Yes! Jason Schwartzman, what a year! I somehow forgot he also did Across the Spiderverse this year too. AND he's great in the Hunger Games prequel
ОтветитьI love these kinds of videos! Keep doing what makes you happy!
ОтветитьI actually read Todd Ingram as more of a repressed gay person, as it never really seemed he cared about any of his GFs in the movie or comics.
ОтветитьReally interesting to hear your reading of the Nega Scott moment from the movie. I always interpreted it as Nega Scott being an exact reflection of Scott but with his internal ugliness on full display. So when Scott himself remarks that Nega Scott is actually a really guy, I took it to mean he was so lacking in personal reflection that he hadn't learnt anything from a very thinly veiled allegory.
It amounts to the same inference as your reading, that Scott fails to perform any self-analysis, but fascinating to see two completely different paths to that final conclusion.
Fantastic video, as always!
I was so fucking siked when at the end of the first episode the story completely changes. I was ready for something new but with the same characters!
ОтветитьI'm from Mexico and I just can't stand Michael Cera's voice.
That's why anytime I watch something he's in I better watch it in spanish. Pleasantly, in the anime he modulates his voice, so I could watched it in English.
Why is it that I always end up with fuzzy warm feelings watching NerdSync videos?
ОтветитьSo its basically the plot from Masters of the Universe: Revelations....
ОтветитьI love Scott Pilgrim and the show was perfect. I loved the references to Edgar Wright, like Kevin McDonald's director character Edgar Wrong, and the security guards voiced by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost both eating Cornettos. One thing that's especially great about every version is they all perfectly capture both the cold and cozy feelings of a Canadian winter in the city.
ОтветитьMy biggest complaint about spto is it barrows themes from O'Malleys seconds and thats my favorite of O'Malleys works
ОтветитьIncel "nice guys" have just learned their patron saint isn't a good guy, but they think it's the wokerati changing things in the anime. Stop the god damned presses.
ОтветитьThe transgender experience is watching/reading Scott Pilgrim in 2012 looking like Scott only to watch Scott Pilgrim Takes off in 2023 looking like Ramona Flowers instead.
ОтветитьI can't believe i lived to see Rebuild of Scott Pilgrim!
The future we see in the later episodes is the timeline from the movie/comics!
Thanks for making this video. More people need to not hear how good it is and not the boring complaint that this show "lies to the audience about Scott Pilgrim, because he isn't in the show."
Also side note, I really really hope you make a video on Baldur's Gate!
i'm sure i'm not the only one, let alone the first, but i: literally paused the video at the spoiler warning (last night), gobbled up the series (which is pretty big for me, as i rarely binge watch) & came back to hear yer thoughts in our beloved franchise
i think the writing of the show was sloppy, not regarding the changes to the story, but the way the lines were written... plus, the story could've used some more time to breathe. That being said, there were quite a few artistic decisions that i found very satisfying & changing the focus of most characters from literal fights that must be won to facing one's shortcomings & striving for reconciliation was enough for me to pull through.
now, if only i could get my hands on a shirt with multiple panels showing all of Ramona's hairstyles in this series... :)
I think its pretty funny that scotr pilgrim takes off flips the story on its head pretty much right when the original comic flipped its genre.
Ответитьbro i wanted more ramona and scott time. i hope we get that in season 2
ОтветитьWell I freaked out ovee the first two episodes...but other than them, I loved the series ^^
ОтветитьI loved Scott Pilgrim especially as one of the comics I’ve read when I first moved to Canada. Getting deeply into the movie and the anime was fantastic in their own ways. I’m just glad the movie cast came back to voice their roles and we had a taste of it during a script reading charity stream around the time of the pandemic. Regardless if there’s another season or not, the anime is a wonderful addition to the series.
ОтветитьOh that sounds way more interesting! I haven’t watched it bc I figured the plot was just going to be the same retelling, but that sounds complex and thought out.
Ответитьwhat I love about Scott Pilgrim is that I got it more on every re-read. when I was 12, it was whoa! fun comic book with fighting and cool girls. when I was 19 and fresh off a horrible breakup, forcing myself to face things and grow up a little... I really got the whole plot and it helped me a lot. now I'm 24 and this series was the perfect thing for me to see at this time at my life. I will never stop being a nerd for this series and I can honestly fully give credit to it for my life taking the direction it has
ОтветитьI love how Old Scott is technically Ramona's eighth evil Ex
ОтветитьYou said that someone should make a Scott Pilgrim stage musical, I’ve had some ideas for the past few years, I’m just young and don’t have much money so can’t really execute those ideas.
ОтветитьThe scene were scott discovers that Ramona has a evil ex-girlfriend stuck with me so much that i really think it made me queer by pure shock
ОтветитьI, and many other people, have been waiting for an animated adaptation of Scott Pilgrim for YEARS, and Netflix marketed this show as that. So while I do like this new story, the fact that it very explicitly was a bait and switch sort of ruins my appreciation of it.
ОтветитьReed is horrible! If Sue didn't married him, he would be a complete monster. And would change his name to The Maker. She just saved him to be a complete jerk.
ОтветитьI get what you are saying, and I completely agree with you. To anyone familiar with Dragonlance, Raistlin Majere is a power hungry ass. he continuously betrays his "friends" to gain power. Yet somehow he is still my favorite character, that can be a thing.
ОтветитьOn people being upset that Scott Pilgrim hardly features in a show called Scott Pilgrim:
Um. Hello? Legend of ZELDA?
Loved the Baldur’s Gate bit by the way. Knew where that was going before you could even finish. 😂
didn't even know there was a movie
Ответитьngl i thougth this was the only Scott pilgrim thing didn't even know there was a movie
ОтветитьI think they just were separated for awhile, not divorced. Scott overeacted and thought that meant they were divorced.
ОтветитьA testament to how good the movie is, is that I often can't stand Scott, but enjoyed the movie.
ОтветитьNext adaptation should be a musical
ОтветитьSome people don't know what to think about a main character that isn't a good guy, but not blatantly evil. Sometimes a person kind of sucks, and it's satisfying when they're able to grow even a little.
ОтветитьLook my only gripe is that it’s on streaming. I want physical media
ОтветитьWhile we do love your more heavily produced videos, we have really been enjoying these more laid-back ones, and it seems (as someone who doesn't know you outside of your online persona) to be easier on you too
ОтветитьI really enjoyed the show. I never read the series but I did watch the movie when it came out and enjoyed it. I really appreciate that this one went in a new direction and explored Ramona in a deeper way
ОтветитьThe only thing that could've made this better is if Evil Older Scott was themed around the number 8, showing how he's turned himself into an evil exe.
ОтветитьIf there is one thing I've learned to be true on the internet is that angry fans are almost never right
ОтветитьWhoever said Kieran Culkin didn't give his all in portrayal of Wallace Wells in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off have clearly not seen the movie cause I disagree with those people
ОтветитьI liked the show. I wanted Brandon Routh to have a bigger part cuz I love seeing his vegan powers.
ОтветитьPeople lose their minds over a perceived "bait n switch". It was the same with Masters of the Universe Revelations. It's a weird kind of entitlement.
ОтветитьSchwartzman is also in the new Hunger Games and he is brilliant in it
ОтветитьI haven't watched this video yet but I suspect I agree with your take 110%
