Can anyone tell me if judo and freestyle wrestling have a big difference when it comes to defending against muay thai clinch? And even if the difference is big, to what extent would a freestyle wrestler be able to at least not get knocked out if caught in a well-placed muay thai clinch? And the judoka, what is the chance of him being knocked out in this type of clinch?

i also love the fact you brought up using head movement when the hands go wrong... i was always taught every defensive action should contain three aspects: a hand movement, a head movement, and footwork... if the hands miss the head movement works, and if the head movement doesn't work the footwork will get you off angle/out of range... really enjoy the love you've shown to these kinds of techniques since i started watching your videos!!

trapping is insanely effective... the only reason boxers haven't evolved the techniques is because it's illegal by boxing rules... the problem is wing chun is too rigid and stylized... also, people tend to get stuck in the trapping range instead of using it as a rapid fire way to segue into strikes and blast through the danger zone of distance where trapping occurs... but there's a certain style of rapid fire movement that you see different flavors of in wing chun/kenpo/FMA/etc. that is mind bendingly effective yet sadly underrepresented in modern combat training...

although I have never trained Wing Chun, I have had many think I had, due to how similar I react to attacks that, as I am told, resemble Wing Chun movements. I think it comes down to truth is truth no matter where it is found. If something works it will be found by many, even if their paths never cross.

I started doing Muay Thai two years ago after too many years of Wing Chun from two different lineages. Definitely having the big16 oz gloves over my hands really disables many Wing Chun hand techniques, but sparring in general is the main key to test your own skills, the closest to a real application, and to figure out what works and not for you (many kung fu moves only work in demo mode).

My first martial art is boxing, i do Muay Thai and BJJ now. If I was in a self defense situation I’d totally want to have my arms out palm open, and parry punches like the wing chun guy is doing, I wouldn’t parry at the elbow, but as someone who questions wing chuns fighting ability I love the street defense moves.

A good and just counter towards all that unconditional (nearly religious) hate TMA gets. I really feel it is important that the world of martial arts learns some respect towards different styles, including the internal ones. All that derision is causing a taboo untoward a whole margin of people who have done nothing as individuals to deserve all that scorn, mockery, and disrespect.

I use a similar long guard, but its a cross between silat, aikido, box, and taichi, but for only box, i use a cross between box and wingchun very similar to yours but in southpaw style or peekaboo closing angles in the long moving the center of mass and hard peekaboo counter punch flow

That karate high block should be accompanied by a level change against straight punches or used against dropping attacks (hammerfists, axe kicks, etc). You shouldn't just stand there and use it.

Sometimes a longer version of the high block appears when you're very bladed and using the front arm and footwork to defend against everything.

The way I would block a hook as a tang soo do guy would be similar, but there's the option of using that open hand to grab and start doing judo.

Everybody ends up doing a little chi sao if they box bare knuckle. You'll even see some kyokushin guys doing it.

Wing chun could really help someone out in that transitional zone between striking and grappling, which is why I think it's important for wing chun and praying mantis guys to allow some basic takedowns in their sparring.

Wing chun has a lot going for it, I think the main thing holding it back is the relatively weak sparring and competition culture. But I don't see why it wouldn't work, and it's very cool.
