bro is on mdma to record this lol those pupils
ОтветитьGreat video, thank you.
ОтветитьI am a game developer and I recomment this video to those who ask me how to start making games.
ОтветитьBest game engine for c++ no graphics card require
Or I like your video bro
I come back to this video so often, you did a fantastic job.
ОтветитьGot this discord group of budding game developers all following this advice. I'm running game jams without themes but based on your time constraints, we just finished our first hour game jam. Thank you for the advice it's really motivated everyone to make games.
It's really pushing me to get good too, even though I have been doing this for longer than most, I'm using my own engine which is forcing me to improve faster and put in more work to try and keep with everyone.
Looking forward to the next 2 day game jam.
Which programming language do you write in?
ОтветитьThis video is my religion
Ответитьhey man just wanted to say this video is still out hear wafting fat waves of inspiration. I've just begun to learn and will be doing my best to follow this didact
ОтветитьI wish I followed this method tbh. Finishing a game is so hard now
ОтветитьThat's great. I've done the video part to death, towards a big game. This was needed.
Ответитьif I try to make game in 1 hour I'd have a game called "Title screen: it's literally a fucking title screen, that's it."
ОтветитьWhy do all aspiring game devs just want to make platformers?
ОтветитьUr a gift to the indie game dev community
ОтветитьThis is really helpful. Ive been going insane trying to make games but I just cant get it right, I need structure and a path to progress. Which is exactly what you've given me.
ОтветитьCurrently working on a game villager comes alive, learn by doing, learn from erors you did and teachings, today i could make a descent FPS shooter, currently i working on my villager comes alive game
ОтветитьI've always wanted to make my own games.
I love lighting, physics, level design sound design its soo good.
I really appreciate this point of view. I've really been avoiding learning programming because it is just the antithesis of everything I like and am good at (math was always my worst subject) but it really seems like basic programming is necessary for what I want to do.
I tried learning before but it was on weekends while I was working full time and almost nothing stuck. I guess starting April 10th of 2022 I will do my best to follow your advice and learn as much programming as I can per day for 3 months and save the art for my free time.
THANK YOU !!!
ОтветитьSolid advice - practical, actionable, and effective. Very goal oriented. Thank you for putting this out there, this road has been really helpful to me.
Ответитьis there a code to make friends? cuz im stuck on this step
Ответитьi like these videos
Ответитьdamn I wish I saw this sooner
ОтветитьI'm still pretty new to gamedev but I started out with it by first, finding an engine that I like (for me, that was GameMaker Studio 2) and then learning it. I watched a lot of tutorials and then experimented with what I learnt. My first big milestone was making a box move around the screen. Then I challenged myself to make an Asteroids rip-off in 48 hours and then I experimented more and then I remade Flappy Bird in 10 minutes and I just experimented more, made weird prototypes, etc. Now I'm working on my 2nd game that I'm gonna release. Also, when I was first starting out, I Googled a LOT. So this is just my experience/some advice
ОтветитьGood video, thank you
ОтветитьI took this advice and started watching brackeys tutorials and following along, and after like a week I thought I'd just hop into the second phase, doing a game in an hour... Jeeez you don't really realize how little you've actually retained until that happens.
Ответить'watch one or two tutorials a day for two months. THEN start making small games' - this sounds like a great way to find yourself getting rapidly disinterested and giving up. Watch 1-2 tutorials a day AND make small 1 week games for two months is going to help you a lot more.
ОтветитьWeird question, but for anyone that has followed this guide, roughly how long did it take to make the polished game with 100 levels? I really like to try and plan out large projects (I'm considering this entire video as one large project). Based off the time he recommends to spend on other sections, and accounting for a few weeks where you are on break or doing other stuff, you would only get about 20 weeks (assuming you watch tutorials for 3 months and take 4 weeks off total whether that is days off or holidays or whatever) to split between the polished game and it's remake. Right now I am aiming to do the polished game in 16 weeks, then remake that game again using any feedback I got in the same 16 week time frame, but using only art and music assets I create.
ОтветитьWise words from the master
ОтветитьWill comeback here after a year to report my progress
Ответитьi subconsciously skip 30 seconds in most tutorials, i did that here and missed half the video lol
ОтветитьAnother idea for making 100 levels when you don't have 100 ideas is to create an "arc" or "theme" for a set of levels, so that each one leads into the other. This way you aren't using all your ideas in the first couple of levels then struggling to come up with how you want to do the rest of your game.
ОтветитьI doubt anyone will ever read this.
But I used this to try to get back in. Long story short it didn't work. Something else did.
If a beginner does this they will get really good at prototyping things really fast.
Which can be a really good hobby! Prototyping is fun, that's why Game Jams are so popular.
My main issue is that everything in here is focused on speed. Speed will come naturally with experience. Good practices, and doing at least one thing every day is far more important. That builds a habit and memory retention. Speed is not important for someone starting out. Unless they just want to Game Jam. I strongly disagree with the idea of telling someone new to do a game in an hour. I did it and learned nothing.
I worry that a bunch of aspiring developers will follow this, and then really struggle with big projects. And they won't really even know why. Big projects don't fail because developers "don't know how to finish games". That's blaming a symptom for the disease. Prototyping as fast as possible encourages Singleton soup, and Signal spaghetti. Or worse, no encapsulation at all. It makes bugfixing a nightmare. One that gets exponentially worse as a project grows. So they give up on the dream. Then they start a new project. Why? Because that's what they have trained themselves to do. Boom! Now they're stuck in JamLand. Which to be fair, can be a really fun place.
Nothing in here encourages or suggests to learn how to build a solid framework for a game.
Its just... do it and do it fast! Don't stop keep go! Good fast go do good fast!
Alright! The road starts here! Wish me luck
ОтветитьI study game design and playtesting is very important. You need feedback. People will never play your game as intended. It's a great way to come up with new ideas or to find bugs. And dont set your scope too high. Start small, finish it, polish it, then upgrade your game.
C#, the basics are not too difficult to learn. Godot has a python like language, very easy but less tutorials or documentations than unity/unreal. Unreal has blueprints but that's a trap unless you're willing to learn C++, you should stay away from this engine at first. Blueprints are only useable for very small projects or mixed with C++
This is by far the best advice out there for people starting game development
ОтветитьHi, what about programs like Grasshopper for learning to program?
ОтветитьAnother genre that I would say is perfect for being simple are clicker games.
ОтветитьNow this is one helluva video/tutorial. You earned my sub.
Ответить"make it under 4 months"
I have been making my platformer for about 7 or more months without consistency ._. and still a lot to implement ._. ._.
I have the opposite problem where im good with story, characters and art, but the game breaks and i take so long just fix something that ended up having a simple solution i didn't know about....
ОтветитьThis is why you cant skip in a miziz video. It is 0% bullshit, 100% content. Good job man.
Ответитьok but how
Ответитьyour pupils are so dilated
ОтветитьI love this channel your what I needed man. Thank you I hope one day I’ll be good enough like you.
ОтветитьHe looks like tommy innit.
ОтветитьDirections unclear, spent over a year on a single screen arcade game
