Is This A NEW Video Game Console!? What Is The Evercade Alpha?

obviously it is a hybrid like the switch. It is going to be the latest gimmick in gaming now, they already have the experimental technology in place. Sony is going that way as well it seems.

i hope the Alpha is a new console focused on old DOS computer games. There's a huge library there

I’m hoping it’s a more powerful console. Something that can handle the more demanding arcade/console ports. That would be pretty cool. I’ve been holding off on buying an Evercade, I would be interested in getting a more powerful Evercade.

My guess is it will be a small arcade machine similar to the ones made by QuarterArcade and Numskull, only you can plug any Evercade cartridge into it, and has the option to attach an external controller to it. "Alpha" because arcade machines pre-date home consoles.

If they're going to start porting PS1/equivalent games then I hope they make a controller with analogue sticks.

My best guess is it's a disc based system similar to how the Sega CD or Turbografx CD worked with the cart systems.

w/all these mainstream consoles going all digital soon i welcome indie companies like evercade releasing a physical games centric console. the evercade can really kick off if they start releasing indie games physically. only thing i want is for them to make their carts of better quality instead of using cheap flash cards they need to make real carts.

I'm thinking it will be a handheld with a larger screen around 5" or more ,with analog sticks, because IMHO that's what they've been lagging behind in.

Slightly frustrated that the Video title hints that MLP knows something he can tell us about the Alpha, but then...nope, not a thing. As for my personal theory, well, I honestly don't even have much of a guess either but will say... Come on Evercade, stop with the different consoles. Getting redonk.

Maybe a console that supports cartridge dumps to local storage ? It could make sense giving the ability to install multiple carts without the need to swap carts constantly…

My theory is a game computer, Atari-style, with a mouse and "alphanumerical" keyboard. Maybe there's a monitor too... Anyways it'll be more expensive than the current VS.

Alpha in gaming software terms means glitchy and is just about playable. Beta means a lot more polish required. Full Release as in GOLD means it will be patched if enough people buy it. 😀

If I was making the shots, I would target a lean architecture that can play the most popular indie titles, whose devs/publishers would be more than happy to get access to another platform. Imagine Terraria, Balatro, Stardew Valley, etc. published on cartridges.

I wish they'd make a nintendo switch styled console. A handheld evercade that can be docked and played on the tv with the regular controller.

you know it's wild that I'm finding out about all kinds of new consoles and old consoles there is one hell of a list for Sega that I didn't even know was out

People keep saying "a more powerful console!" but I think that'd be one of the dumbest moves they could make.
Evercade's consistency was one of the reasons I finally felt comfortable enough to buy in. They should commit to their low powered hardware and secure support from more publishers/entice indie devs to develop with Evercade in mind (when possible.)

Can they make major modifications to the hardware? I feel like their goal is to be a console manufacturer and therefore keep things reasonably standardized.

Can't even guess at it. The VS-R was unexpected and totally deflating. This could either be incredible, or another nothing burger. Consider me curious!

Would love for a more powerful console that plays Evercade cartridges that has online multiplayer, that plays some more 3D games as well as indie titles

Maybe a retro system with 3D support up to DC type visuals.

Im going to guess it's a more powerful console. Perhaps when they got Glover going on the current hardware they realize that if they want to start doing N64 titles and beyond (think Saturn, Dreamcast or hell even PS2 (wishful thinking I know)) that better hardware would be beneficial. Alternative guess would be a console that not only takes Evercade carts but carts of other consoles as well. However with that, one can make the argument that Evercade would be just shooting themselves in the foot with that

I would be nice if it was a higher end console but i couldn't see the likes of Crazy Taxi and Simpsons Hit And Run because of licensing costs would be too high, so it will probably be a console that has WiFi and a store to download from.

Sounds like it could be a successor to the Evercade VS. Remember the Evercade VS-R is not a successor, it's just a cheaper model. With the Evercade Alpha I think they will upgrade with a more powerful chip and up to date emulators so newer 24-Bit, 32-Bit, and 64-Bit games could run on it. This means selected and third party games from the PS1, NeoGeo, Sega Saturn, N64, Atari Jaguar, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Turbo CD, Super Grafx, GBA, and 3DO library may get a chance to show up on that system. Imagine playing Tekken 3 on the go for the first time officially, that would be cool, even the PSP and PS Vita doesn't allow this as Tekken 3 was never put on the PS Store, never got a re-release for a handheld, and never being ported to any console outside of the PS1. Then again this newer project may be hinting at other thing, Evercade Alpha, initial that and what do you get, EA? Uh-oh!
