Well said on the battery matching. It's like apple used to advertise their lightening cable ...you can stick it in either side, none of that pesky rotating?

For the drill driver I would say a smaller 12v set are great for smaller projects. Larger drill drivers are great if you are working on larger carpentry projects. For smaller wood working projects and around the house I prefer my 12v kit.

The matching batteries are for the fact that batteries are expensive... And as you add tools you can purchase the tools with out the battery for much cheaper.

don't keep batteries on chargers long term (both for fire safety and battery health). battery adapters are available as long as the tool and battery match voltage (20v is the same as 18v). mytoollist has been down since i found your channel

Great video. Not to scare people off of the table saw but the table saw causes the most hand injuries so I would get some training on it from someone who knows what they are doing and has all their fingers :) So cool to see you are a local of Marin County.

Hmmm, I really don't understand WHY a table saw is must have.
You tell me, that I won't be able to do ANY fine cut, with a circular saw plus Track Guide?

In reality, if you take your circular saw, and put it upside down on a table, and mount it, then you got a table saw (yes, you need to saw through the table itself).
I can't see how that should make it that much better. BUT, it can be my autism and how I see this for me, very strange world.

Also, miter saw, why not use circular saw? It's a circular saw mounted... I do agree, it is nice to have multiple tools and options.
I am self a brand-new Woodworker .... just waiting for my wood to come, and I will build my own desktop + cabinet with drawers, that fit my needs.
And I don't have nor can afford to buy a table saw, I already used/wasted enough on so much tools, that I properly just could have ordered the desktop table and cabinet with drawers from a builder. That would likely be cheaper in the long run LOOOOOOOOOL

Else, many many thanks for your good videos, and like you how doing!

Greetings from Denmark.

My woodworking is more heavily centered around construction, but my suggestion for your list would be some kind of material handling - clamping sawhorse/clamping table/clamp stand type device. It's such a huge difference maker to have a sawhorse/portable work table that you can clamp to for anything larger than your workbench (if you even have a workbench!).

I like the Ridgid "Lumberjack" for the endless possibilities of custom jigs using the replaceable 2x4 top rail and the height adjustment. You can clamp along (nearly) the entire length, drill holes for bench dogs, notch grooves for clamping pipe/dowels, expand the width/height with different 2x lumber, use it with your miter/table saw for infeed/outfeed support by matching the height to your tool, cut through it without worry, attach a temporary or stowable work top etc.. It's really a fantastic thing to have around. I suffered through many years of regular sawhorses/roller stands before these came along and changed how I work.

Nah, Definately stick to the one Power tool battery set, why would you want multiple chargers and batteries, surely one charger and being able to use multiple batteries in one tool if you require that tool for heavy use during a particular task. Rather than having one battery for one individual tool.

I wish I would have seen this video during the COVID lock down. Ha. During that time, I was watching a ton of You Tube woodworking videos and of course saying: "That's pretty neat, I think I will buy that." Fortunately most of the stuff I bought, I would wait for it to go on sale, so I got some pretty good deals. I don't really regret buying most of it, except for some Doweling jigs which I will probably never use. I settled on the Dowelmax doweling jig which is really a great tool. Thanks for this video as always great content.

Even though I've been working with wood for many years, I only do simple work and consider myself a beginner.

I would definitely include one or two hand saws in your tool list. [My choice: a Japanese ryoba and a flush trim saw] There are times when you only need to make a short little cut, such as making a notch in the corner of a piece of plywood, and a power tool is overkill. Or you want to crosscut a few 2 by 4s when the baby is asleep. The ryoba is great for these. And if you ever use exposed dowels (to cover screws?) a flush trim saw is a necessity. Saws are not expensive, you can get both for under $50.

Also, I don't and will not own a table saw. 1) I live in an urban flat, and a table saw just doesn't fit in my space. 2) The noise ... 3) I'm usually alone when working, if I injured myself I'd have nobody to help me. I have a track saw and "baby" circ saw for straight cuts, and a router for dados and rabbets. And, being a little old lady, I have large sheet goods cut to sizes I can handle in the store.

We are doing a ton of renovations, and over the course of doing them I had several tools fail. They were all old hand me downs, so they were pretty much end of life anyhow.

I wanted an impact driver to go with my drill, my oscillating multi tool had failed, as did the ancient circular saw I was using.

While shopping for replacement I came across a 6 piece 20v craftsman kit that lowes sells.

It has a drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, oscillating multi tool, and a shop light as well as a charger and a couple of batteries.

The only thing I didn't really need out of the kit was the shop light, but even that would find some use I'm sure. Not a bad score for $200.

"Buy used tools"? Um. Yeah. Not sure about that one. I've made it my rule not to buy used electronics. You can't always tell if they have something wrong with them because the problem may fluctuate. Although not as complicated, power tools use electricity. So, unless they give you a one-week free trial, you wont notice a hidden problem. But, then again, you wont lose that much money anyway buying used tools.

Right on about used tools. I have bought a bunch.

Hand tools are necessary for a lot of restoration work. I could not take my power tool outside to drill a one inch hole in a railroad tie. I used a brace and bit.

I took me years to get a really decent hobby shop. Lots of used tools.
