i think it would be a really good tv show if they made the long dark game into a tv show. tbh i would love to make one if i had money

So beautiful and well made. High quality overview of the vast snowey landscape with thousands of trees. Must have required a good highend drone for that. So many good details with eg. tiny fire sparks from the bonfire, tiny model of the Lighthouse of the one on Desolation Point, the fishing boat (from Bleak Inlet). And paid attention to detail with dust on the shelf, when can of peaches are being picked up and scavenged. The tense background music. And ofcause the good and deep narator voice of Christopher Plummer. His deep and kind of hoarse voice fits perfect. May he rest in Peace. Very good good Hinterland for a very good game. There is no other game that captures the quiet apocalypse better. Waking up in the Mountaineer's Hut, and having my own set of goals to complete every day, be them collecting wood for fire, hunting the local fauna or scavenging the whole of Great Bear Island for goods, whenever or however I can is absolutely wonderful, and with the impactful finality of death looming around the corner, makes every step a careful one. As a Vancouver Islander myself, it's great to have such amazing creators nearby making this adventure for all of us to enjoy. I hope along with the rest of you that we all get a live-action story of this adventure one day, I myself would prefer an 8-part mini-series, to a 2 hour film. Thank You Hinterland

So when the movie coming out?

I rewatch this every now and again knowing it's not just a poem, it's reality. It's coming, this "quiet apocolypse." The evidence is all around us, you just have to pay attention to what's happening. We live in a marvelous world of technological advancement with new and improved modern conveniences being developed every day. However, all of these things have one thing in common...they run on electricity. What if there is none? What if we're hit with EMPs? The day will come when all of this technology, that we rely on every day, dies. The lights will go out, the cars won't start, the phones won't ring. Society will fall apart, stores will be looted, marshal law will commence, peoples homes will eventually be robbed as well.

Have any of you reading ever thought about that coming day? Do you have a plan? An escape route? Can you build a fire? Can you find food, water, and shelter? Do you have what you need? Have you prepared for this? Truthfully, how far will you go to survive the long dark?



I personally hope to be raptured before then but hey, it pays to be prepared.

I really love the sound at the end of this video, especially the piano. Is there any way to hear this without voice somewhere?

I love this game and this is beautifull.

I periodically come back to this absolute work of art just to revel in the breathtaking composition. I'm not a poetry kind of person, but this gets to me. It breaks my heart that more people haven't seen it. The only thing I don't love to death about this is that it's not seven seconds longer to allow the music to fade slowly into the silence in the end.

I remember using this video as an introduction back in school for my presentation in English class, I talked about this game to my teacher and peers for over 40 minutes and dare I say, they were in awe for the most part.

Holy crap that's powerful! I want to see more real world examples of the regions in the game; what areas drew the inspiration for the local settings. Some were obvious in this amazing video. You know, If someone were willing to do it, this could make a great film. Include elements from story mode for plot, and you have something that can be very powerful.

this game is a total masterpiece for eternity... it gives me shivers and it's the first game I'm afraid of playing because of the blizzard and the wolves in the dark... we need the movie!!!!!

I really love TLD's graphics but sometimes i wish we had a winter survival game with hyper realistic graphics like the trailer.

ELEGY briefly covers a period of time in the apocalypse not often touched on by games. It's brief, but a one sentence nod to it is better than not talking about it at all.
Where were you when the lights went out?

Just barely found this, and as a fan of the game since kickstarter, I must say this is absolutely chilling. (No pun intended.) You all have such a talent, this turned out incredible. Rest in peace Plummer, and thank you. All of you.

Any book or visual media recommendations that capture this kind of vibe? I love it, it reminds me of the setting and scenery in The Revenant or the soul-crushing psyche of The Road

I get so anxious watching this, and I love it. Makes me want to write more.

This is seriously such a beautiful video, it perfectly captures what makes this game so special, I used to adore this game but after the REDUX episodes released I kind of fell out of TLD, I’ve only recently returned several months ago and I’ve fallen in love with it all over again, and I feel that now I have a much deeper appreciation for it than I did several years ago, I think the story mode is pretty decent overall especially after REDUX though I was fairly cruel to it when it first came out, I was a lot snarkier and angry back then but I feel that I’ve mellowed out a lot since then. I do have my fair share of criticisms over the narrative itself but I do think the package over all is enjoyable if flawed. The writing just feels a bit amateur in a lot of ways and feels needlessly cryptic without any real reason for being so, maybe episode 5 will come out and be absolutely incredible but only time will tell.

The survival mode though is what I feel really shines, how it comes down to your decision making and that doesn’t feel like some tacked on description on the back of the box to make you go “woooow” but when you play it it doesn’t really live up to it, but the long dark is the exception to that, and that’s what keeps it so engaging. Fighting your absolute hardest to survive in a world that doesn’t care weather you live or die, choosing to fight against overwhelming adversity and trying your damndest to not let it take you down. And I love that about it.

I love how each survivor we see is not just different looking but also in a drastically different situation representing each of our (the players) playthroughs. Very cool trailer!
