Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, southwest England is a popular spa town, and is famous for hosting the Cheltenham Festival - a four-day horse racing event taking place annually in March.

The walk starts in the affluent Montpellier district in the south of the town. Heading north, we pass down the Promenade, a wide street containing shops and a few notable landmarks including Neptune's Fountain, The Hare and the Minotaur sculpture and the Edward Wilson statue. Edward Wilson was born in Cheltenham and was one of a handful of pioneering explorers to have reached the South Pole in the early twentieth century.

Continuing north, we reach Pittville Park, home of the Pittville Pump Room, which was built between 1825 and 1830 as a means of extracting Cheltenham's mineral water. This was the brainchild of Joseph Pitt, to whom this northern suburb of Cheltenham was named after.
