ОтветитьThe audience is too focused on the determination of the harrassment, while the duty of the CEO should always be protecting the interest of the company, legally as well as reputation as well as perception. Bad press matters here whether the allegations are true or not.
ОтветитьAs a CEO, you are not law enforcement, you have a duty to your Company from a Legal, Political, Marketing, Reputation, Integrity standpoint. So you may want to mobilize all those avenues, if necessary bring in an independent 3rd party to investigate. Perhaps putting employee on leave during investigation. But these steps should be known beforehand prior to the incident. Including whether, company should get involved.

ОтветитьEvery company has a POSH committee which looks into these aspects and treats every such allegation filed officially in a just and fair method ensuring secrecy maintained of people involved all thru the process until it is closed.

My recommendation as CEO..."HR CHIEF...DO YOUR JOB" Now my recommendation is that as HR Chief to be clear...
1.) Out of an abunance of caution stop all communication and interaction between the two. I better not see these two in the same hallway ever again. If we have work parties, one of you can ZOOM in or MS Teams! Roll a dice I don't care.
2.) If the lady feels a crime has been committed we suggest she speak with the police department or a lawyer.
3.) Pending the outcome of any lawsuit, the company considers this matter "CASE CLOSED".
Next case.....no evidence....what you want me to do about this. You think the CEO is going to go around with his notebook interviewing people when he has an HR CHIEF! LMAO....this isn't a small company....you are the HR Chief now get to work which would be easy as 1 2 3 for them to figure this out. No evidence...oh la la.....
The other "WHAT IF" she had 1 million twitter followers. My recommendation above would still stand and I would add the following if she thinks using her follower base will strengthen her position when she has no evidence.
4.1 -- We feel that you have a very large base that you should be very proud of. We suggest you focus on that base and strengtheningh your relationship with your base of 1 million followers than 1 person which is the COO of this company. Unless you have evidence we consider this matter close. Do you want ot work for us , yes or no? If you do, please sign this piece of paper that says you won't talk about this matter in public again. ОтветитьLOL if the company is public, the ESG of the company it is important and how investors will invest in the company. You have to acknowledge it, talked to the person and tell how serious this allegation this is and if there's any future complains, they he or she will have to face certain invents and would also send an email to rest of investors.

ОтветитьThe number 1 role of the CEO is to do what is best for the organization. Organizations differ. So, how this gets addressed varies from org to org. Does the company have regulations regarding how to deal with this? Follow those. If you don't like them, propose new ones at the next board retreat. Does not have policies around this issue? Well, those need to get proposed. In an instance where there aren't clear guidelines (needs to be fixed), the solution is: Do what's best for the organization as a whole. The correct answer varies based on: shared values, style, strategy, staff, structure, system, and skills of the org. The professor talks about humility. I interpret this as humility from the students to consider that the organization is bigger than their personal opinions or what they would do in a dictatorhsip-esque setting.

ОтветитьHe is classic Gujarati salesman trying to sell his books. He kept giving tougher situations to students but never mentioned what a close to right decision would be. This is how Harvard is loosing its image and has turned into "Salesman Factory" where brutal salesman are manufactured under the fake mask of "CEO or Leader Manufacturing Business School"

ОтветитьThe comments from the men here just demonstrate why these things happen to women and why MeToo is needed in the first place. Also don’t know why the professor is using sexual harassment and sexual assault interchangeably, as both have different mental, legal, and professional repercussions.
ОтветитьI dont think this method is great, too many variations in the answers and saying there is no right answer definitely doesn't cut it in real life, thats probably why he's a professor and not a CEO.

ОтветитьI used to teach by the case method. And it was a complete waste of my time and my students'. It may be good for certain disciplines, but not all.
