If they understand all those language that you set the context for the word "match", how come they still need to learn the word "match"?

This video illustrates many of the problems with a course like CELTA. We're being asked to assume that your hypothetical students will understand 'Imagine' 'thunder' 'lighting' 'ectricity' and 'candle' but not the word 'match.' Why not just translate it? Or show them a box of matches?

As for the concept-checking questions, shouldn't they have been banished to a particularly dark corner of hell by now? 'Is a match big?" Please...

I thought that IPA made comprehension more difficult for low level students when I had to teach students since some students didn't understand it even when the regular teacher used it all the time.

Great video! I didn´t plan to watch it all when I saw how long it was :)) but I ended enjoying it a lot. Great way of communicating , very structured, Congratulations! Dana.

No offence to you at all but in my opinion phonetic is really shitty. I learnt English from A1 level to C1 level and I never used it. It is useless. The best is to learn pronunciation using your hears, repeating after the teacher, watching videos, listening to music and so on… Moreover, it is much funnier. However, I really appreciated your video, your explanations were great.

You are the best!!! For half an hour I saw much more structured and logical information than I have got for a month of my Celta course (plus already three TPs, which drove me crazy as tutors say everything is wrong but how to do it better - think for yourself!!!) which still lasts)))
