How do I make an audio track have a utility/eq/tuner as default?

You should leave the utility as the last plugin in the chain. If you leave it in first it will influence the volume going into your compressors, distortions, etc.

Why are you putting the utility at the beginning of the chain to control gain automation? Wouldnt you want it at the end of the chain, post-effects?

Yes utility helps a lot with the volume for the whole channel to automate the entire channels gain volume and panning

Also the quick on/off mono button is a godsend on master channel for mixing/mastering

Great stuff dude and quick question.

You should do a video on panning with Ableton, something you don't see a lot of producers talking about. I learned that the knob that pans L & R in Ableton, is actually just turning down the volume on one side as opposed to actually changing the stereo field. Where as if you right click and select "stereo pan mode", that now it actually can be controlled correctly. What is the truth and depth of this? Is it one of those things like with gain staging where, yea you know how to do it, but as long as it sounds good kind of deal then don't worry too much about the little specifics?

someday ableton can smart moving automation line with changing automated parameter.
someday in 2068 may be... no, too fast for this developers.
in 2068 we can have link playhead between clip and arrangment.
and may be we can just click on anyway place in clip and just push spacebar for playback from choosing location?
no, he cant handle with this feature. its only for... all other f4ckin DAWs?

another trick:
group utility in effect rack
map gain in macro 1
in mapping list change range from (- inf / +35dB) to (-inf / +6 or +10 dB)
it help with “precise” volume automation.

I do the same here. I actually never touch a fader. All done with the utility plugin. Not to mention the mono maker button to make everything below 100 Hz mono! My most used plugin for sure. ✌🏼❤️

Utility followed by a free VU meter such as mvMeter2. Change utility gain to make VU meter average 0db and then put another Utility plugin last in chain to do exactly what you’re saying.

For audio tracks, I believe you can automate individual clip volume as well. I definitely do prefer the Utility workflow though, since it's more friendly with gain staging.

The best part is that Decap is telling all the new producers that. When I started learning, I had to learn these techniques on my own! xP
