These days, the term "modern" means stripping software off its features that used to be normally accessible, in order to be idiot-proof. The options in the Settings app are much more primitive than their Control Panel equivalents in the earlier versions of Windows. Remember how easy it was to change the display fonts in Windows 7? Remember how you could customize icon spacing? Remember being able to turn off automatic updates fully? You can't do those things normally anymore, you need to tinker in the registry or install third-party software for that. If actually having control of your computer is "outdated", then I don't wanna be modern.

The one thing I've always admired about iOS is that they just seem to make it better and more stable they don't move things around hide things cancel things and implement new things thus confusing end users and technical support people alike. If people are used to something leave it where it is just make the operating system more stable. Anyway that's just my humble opinion

The odd part is, that its literally just a UI overlay on the exact same underlying thing. Theres no reason for this and to mess with 30 year old brain memories. I could see the idea if it was totally other way of doing things, but i bet win 11 is still win32 compatible

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it !. This statement is not !, on the Microsoft agenda. Change for change sakes. The Control Panel offers everything in one place, offers visual clues to where we should go etc. However Microsoft’s settings is now becoming more convoluted with more and more sub menus to navigate through. Yes that very word that is endemic in Windows 11, “ sub menus “. Please keep the Control Panel Microsoft. But sadly it will disappear !.

MS with all of their resources, cant just migrate it all at once, its a slow painful trickle of settings here, control panel there, and you now have to google how to change something because its impossible to find, and you have to learn where stuff is in settings, its not intuitive.

Much prefer Control Panel when viewed by: 'Small Icons'...You get a nice extensive alphabetical list of 'All the Control Panel Items'. Surprising just how many individual items are in Control Panel. Went back from Windows 11 Dev to Windows 10 and have Control Panel and Settings pinned to the Taskbar. Makes life Nice and Easy Peasy....Excellent video.

In the meantime, it would be a good idea to familiarise yourselves with what those .CPL files do. There are still some which relate to add-in hardware, so CPL won't disappear all that soon. MS will make it progressively harder to reach though. It has now been tucked away inside "Windows Tools". For some weird reason, it also CONTAINS "Windows Tools".

Every other program on Earth uses a "settings" area. So changing to settings rather than "Control Panel" makes sense. This shouldn't be an issue at all as long as they don't take away any functionality. MS really needs to stop parsing out settings in all these different places and put it under ONE area like every other software company in the world.

so - they're NOT really getting rid of Control Panel - they're just renaming it. Not that I will be using it anyway BEFORE 2025 though. I should have realized that it was a LIE when Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would be the last Operating System. It's been under constant development since the days of Windows 3.11 (or earlier - about 36 years now).

Windows 11 search bug... there are 2 features rolled into the search icon in the task bar. if you click on it, you get a big box with all your search functions... however, if you hover your cursor over the icon (magnifying glass icon) you get a smaller box that you can search from that also displays your last 3 items searched. the bug is, once this smaller box is used and disappears, it leaves behind a ghost frame of the box that cant be removed without doing a restart. So the work around for me to avoid this bug is to use the settings box to search for my apps/programs. hopefully this gets fixed, it's really annoying.
