I was reminded of the singer, Cher, too, and also the British pop singer from the 80s, Alison Moyet. The difference is that Diana can sing very high notes too,. I've only heard Cher and Alison sing in the lower registers.

Diana keeps her tongue flat while singing. You need to watch more of her.

Its funny you say that you cannot sing that. I believe it. I have a baritone voice and her lower notes are what I sing naturally. She has a voice similar to my depth and does not sound like she is faking or struggling. I can go deeper than she can but I would want to bloody hope so! I can also not reach her higher notes or her midrange. She is a wonder.

Diana is a natural Contralto, which is rare and the lowest of female vocalists' registers.....she reminds us that there are so many talented performers from the "world music" genre,.....but she is unique among them.......she was abused and abandoned as a child, was mute, and raised in a Russian orphanage ........Her adoptive Mum used singing and voice lessons to help Diana overcome the trauma of her earliest years....

Watch a couple more of her videos and you'll see how solid her mastery of technique is.

This is not her usual voice. She sang the whole song with her larynx lowered. In the song "Wicked game" on the NTV channel, she demonstrated many techniques.
