Despite the exclusion of his faith and how it shaped him which I believe was what led to him writing the Lord of the Rings (along with his love for legends and mythology) this was definitely wonderfully done! Wish we could have seen more of the shaping of his characters and the way he named them because that would have definitely been a fascinating thing to see.

Wonderful trailer, always makes me thrill. There I saw Mordor, Smaug, Mount Doom, Sauron and of course The One Ring

Highly disappointed with this ghastly film that does not come close to conveying Tolkien's experience and legacy. I give them credit for it seems woke free but I side with the Tolkien Estate in hating this biographical. They didn't even mention CS Lewis, or the Silmarillion, his amazing philologist powers and the 3 movies he made up. Also Tolkien was not a drunk and that nonsense with him yelling up at the window with phrases like Finrod Felligin and Feanor or whatever it was ....trash. no mention of so much and the hypothesis of his wartime events and the flame thrower giving him the idea of the dragon etc. I give the movie a 2 out of 10 at best IMHO. Even rings of power was better.

I didn't know they made a biographical film about JRR Tolkien himself! I can't believe I was unaware of that!!! 😮

I think I'm probably the biggest fan of this movie. I have watched it a thousand times, over and over, yet it still doesn't get old. I love the casting of all the characters, the music, the themes...everything! Its as if this film was specifically made for me as an individual, I don't know why I feel this way...but it really does. I wish I was in this world, I wish I was a part of the TCBS, I wish I had friends like that. It really surprises me that so little people know about this movie, because it is pure art. The reviews online don't match up to the experience I get when watching it, its just simply superb.

I've always viewed Tolkien as one of my biggest inspirations. I wish i got to meet him.
Also fun fact during the height of the Nazi regime he openly wrote letters to the paper trashing Hitler 😂 he was such a badass

Watched this last night. Quite simply one of the most beautifully made, heart wrenching and profoundly poetic movies I've ever seen. Food for the soul.

I watched this movie, honestly go and read Tolkien’s biography by Humphrey Carpenter you will get a much better sense of the true Tolkien and his life. The movie is in my opinion dull and at the same time way over dramatic. I’ll just mention this Edith and Tolkien were married before he even left for the war in 1916, and his eldest son was born during his time away, secondly Edith in my view acts like a controlling little feminist, and complains about his writing and being locked in his office, in my recollections of the book Tolkien would only write at night after everyone had gone to bed. If you want to watch the movie fine but read the book it’s so much more in depth and interesting than a crappy C rated movie.

I’m from New York and remember living in London at the time when I saw this. I went to see this in a cinema in London with my friend who was from Washington. It was beautiful to be in the country Tolkien was from while watching this 😊

my first mushroom trip I sat outside in the snow under the stars and Tolkien sat beside me and we talked about our world. A great influence in my life, grateful to be alive to see this film.
