Can you link the modified parts please? It says they're linked at the bottom of the page, but I can't find them anywhere.

Mr. Sanladerer, thanks to your videos, I'm thoroughly down this rabbit-hole of 3d printing and ready to build my own. Would you still recommend this as a first DIY build? I see the link to BOM, would it still be relevant today in 2023? Thanks!

Hey.. On the parts list website you mention the Modified Parts.. It turned out that there's no download options at the page and these parts are nowhere to be found. I started to build this years agor and found the parts in a box. I wish to complete this saga upgrading it to MK2.5+, but I can't find the modified parts. Can you please make them available again? This is my only hope to print those parts and complete the 3d printed with your instructions

Hi Tom, amazing series, thanks for that! I am considering to try to build my printer based on this very project, but I noticed that it's from 5 years ago. Do you see any major risks involved in the project because it is from so long ago? Maybe parts not available or other blockers?

This is how it all started for me!! With a Mk2 clone given to me by a friend and this series, eventually I've built two more clones, heavily modified, one with 235x235 creality heated bed, the other 300x200. The 5mm rods eventually were replaced with 8x2 lead screws. Still with the good old Mega/Ramps 1.6 combo but with TMC 2208 drivers now, Marlin 2.1 with linear advance, Mesh levelling etc.. And all three have been printing flat out for the last three years. Nice one Tom!!!

Thomas,
I'm curious why you bothered with the TDC plating on the shafts you used for your linear guides? I'm a linear drives and guides engineer and we normally only use chrome in corrosive environments. You shouldn't have any corrosion issues if you keep the parts greased.

Also the bushings you selected doesn't use chromed ball bearings.

I found this very interesting, I was given a Pursa i3 and after checking online it looks like it’s been based on one or the game broke and they’ve built one out of Perspex. It needs a few bits upgrading as some bits broke but should be able to get it working again. What I found interesting in this video is you said about a wooden frame, I’d not thought of that, however I have done carpentry in the past. So I’ll look into that.

Did you do a build video where we can see you build the 3D printer. That is something I would be interested in seeing done.

Please keep making these videos as they are great.

Thanks,
TMD

Even after listening to this video for a few minutes it becomes clear that you need to devote your life to learning the technology if you're going to build your own printer. For people like me who just want to print then it's just not worth the headache and much easier to give up something to buy a complete and working product! :-)

oh boy, this would get expensive to build when living in my country....since every single parcel that comes from outside the EU now has a crooked "Postal handling fee" of 9 USD, regardless of the value of the items. Its done just to stop all cheap China parcels since the Postal system couldn't handle the sheer volume of all those 1 dollar China parcels.

I was sold a used "Prusa i2 mk3" and I'm trying realy hard to find any documentation. It contains a mini-Rambo 1.3a and the classic acrylic frame. I'm having heck finding any online support and I may have to write my own firmware. It has the Prusa name on it. I think it's real but years outdated. It is all I could afford.

My wife bought the Prusa i3 with the MMU but never installed the mmu due to numerous issues people posted about. Her Prusa is running great and she doesn't want to "mess it up!" I was thinking of mounting the MMU onto another printer all together but it looks like I need to swap the controller for something like the Prusa has so I can run the firmware to run the MMU. Watching this series to see if I can use any of it.

Power supplies are also worth looking into from old PC parts: I've had more success using a PC power supply to power my Prusa clone. Those aluminium elongated fanless power supplies were designed to power LEDs, so they die all the time on a lot of Chinese printers.

"Now, these aluminum beds aren't always labelled as aluminum"

Of course! Because the Chinese sellers just put their product description through some online translator, and it's more likely to correctly call the metal aluminium

Whatever you do, for the love of God do not make the frame out of wood! For a 3D printer to work right, the frame must be 100% square and everything must line up perfectly. Just one millimeter off and your gantry and bed will not be level!
