Fiat Grande Punto review (2009 to 2012) | What Car?

Love Grande Punto

It is not particularly about a car. Whatever,even a Phantom. Key point is 'maintain your car'. I recently owned a 2011 GP petrol. First see,i thought it was a refurbished stuff,coz the damn body glazing !! Seats n cabin are neet n tidy.Not a single unwanted sound on the go. After a 90000 KM stage.Still the car in an excellent condition.

We have the first model... 2009 i think. It has the 1.4L 8V engine (78HP) and the Automated Manual gearbox. It's the Giuggiaro Edition... And damn. We still drive it, and apart from that bloody DualLogic gearbox and the front springs... Everything is just fine. Stable at high speeds, low fuel consumption... A bit underpowered for the modern world, but hey, it did it's job for what is now 13 years if not more...

I have 2012 GP.
Been to Mt. Vesuvius, to Athens, Vienna. Drive every day.
In 50.000km (I bough it with 120.000km) I had failed alternator, 1 brake change and 3 regular services.
For some reason FL and RR window cables snapped.

After driving my Grande for 13 years i have to say it was one of my best car purchasing stories... did 150k kilometres in the sh+tty home roads and even the control arms are originals. Also the halfaxles and all suspension parts except the 2 front spring since the one on the right side was broken. Engine was never touched, i disagree with the video in the terms of the 1.3 mjtd not worth the extra cost... I think it is the best option. Amazing fuel efficiency and very good power curve.. much better as a n/a petrol engine in any way. It is a shame that Fiat decided to not to continue the Punto family...

for 3,5yrs i have GP 1.9, 2005
one of the last w/o DPF
bought with 150k kms/100k miles, now 230k kms/ 150k mil.
giving him no bio-added diesel,
oil changing á 10-12k kms/6-8k miles,
no mad accel. when cold engine,

friendly treating/cooling turbo,
3.5 -4k rotations/min from time to time when the engine is fully warm
etc...
he´s great companion in perfect condition..
(of course mechanic parts are changed when needed - brakes, platform, steering, bearings
real consump. 5,6litres/100kms

i had 2 honda, 3 vauxhall, and at present a punto. I have to say its very comfortable, reliable and economic. i save a lot of money on petrol

I often say the punto is a good car when it's working properly. I would never own another though.

My punto works very good and start all the time its amazing how cheap this car is and the Hp is not bad for the begin or learning to drive

Very unreliable car

its a fine car

Got a Grande dub version 2 months ago second hand 28,000 miles,
car started making an odd whistling noise after few weeks
the new noise got worse and louder, engine sounds like its crying
electric wing mirrors then stopped working
windscreen wipers also randomly stopped working
radio kept randomly going off as well


all in all the car lasted me under two months until i took it back.
Very poor, not at all a strong car for winter in my experience.

Had the 1.9JTD Eleganza (120) model for best part of 7 months so far. Drives perfectly, (better than any of my friends cars) nothing so far has gone wrong even with the best part of 7000 miles so far besides a faulty wheel bearing which was only £70. For my first car, I'd say a definite 10/10 don't listen to this lady :-)

Great car.... But why is there no boot handle to open the boot ?

I have gradne punto 2009 1.3 multijet 95hp and it's excellent car. No problems, low consumption, cheap servicing and maintenance and the car is not expensive. Nice ride through the snow.

I have a 1.2 GP, I love it, a bit underpowered but its so nice to drive!

I just put a deposit down on a 1.2 Grande, can't wait to get it next Sat. Not bothered on how it performs on motorways as there are no motorways where I live lol. It is pretty good for town driving which is what I need it for to get to and from work. Felt fine for me when I test-drove it. I just needed a cheap motor for getting to and from work and this fits the bill perfectly plus I think it looks very nice. :)

These are great cars, I wholeheartidly recommend them. They're just the right size to be a generously sized first car or a small family car.

she is mad, on the fifth gear take off your feet from accelarator car goes without knocking(running constantly @ 25kmph)

im gunna get this car after my test (14th June). looking at a 1.2 for now as anything higher would be more on insurance, but what does she mean by 'thrashy and underpowered'?

I simply love this car. What they say about Fiat cars is true - You need a passion for Fiat to fully appreciate the car for what it is : Top-notch interior, classic styling, excellent build quality, but an often dodgy clutch. I recently changed my clutch but wow, what a pleasant drive after that! If you cannot got over it, go ahead and get a plasticky Jazz or Yaris. I love my Fiat and her chunky plush steering wheel and excellent stability at high speeds!

Don't get me wrong! Its all about the car you get. I get alot of people complimenting me saying how nice it looks and how I (we now) have such a nice car for the first car. My insurance is pretty good. Just had various troubles with the parts etc. Decent car though. I geuss i was annoyed when i wrote that comment as i'd just had to put new break pads on after 4 months of my mom driving it haha!
