Deus Ex - Mysterious Call

I checked i think a third of the phones in the game in 21 years, but not this one. The hell. How is it possibile to always find new things in this masterpiece, I'm on my 4th run, now on realistic!

I think that I can speak for many Deus Ex fans when I admit that I was scared, too. I almost expected MJ12 troops or even Gunther Hermann to appear behind me. I wonder if the folks at Ion Storm Austin considered having JC be ambushed right after that phone call. Icarus found you, indeed.

In Deus Ex, you can never really trust anyone. You make one wrong move. Bad people will find you and kill you.
When I first encountered the Icarus messages, I was scared for my life.

I bet there's some sort of retro craze about using tabletop telephones in 2052 because sure as hell no one uses them in 2019..

When I heard the first line I almost shat myself as a kid.

I like how Denton is never amazed or scared or anything. He just has a cool one line for every mothafuka

I know how this will sound, but I suspect that JC was talking with a Helios. I know that at this part of a story Helios was not existing (at least officially), but, there are three things that make me to think it was a Helios after all:

a) Helios and a person on the line have a very familiar - if not identical - way of speaking.
b) Also, both of them like to use a word: "Yes".
c) Helios is a highly advanced AI that was created by using a supreme technology. And because of that, I think that at some point it could have existed in our world. Like a soul without a body.

Of course this is only my suspicion and I can be wrong, but still, I can't shake the feeling that this is Helios and no one else.

Then you turn around, thinking something is actually going to show up right behind you.

Phones could never be used for Cutscenes. Except this one, which was probably the only exception. So this was probably a last minuite addition and they forgot to remove the "operator call" effect you get when you "use" a phone. I'd like to think that another phone is ringing elsewhere.

The imperfect merge was a result of a flaw in the Denton DNA which was never anticipated by anybody. I hardy believe Helios would do something so "aligned". He seemed more like the perfect "True Neutral" AI.

Why would daedalus suddenly sound so malevalent? And why did he not communicate with him directly?

For one, only Icarus would know when JC picked up the phone. Again, it makes sense for Page to speak out such lines using a voice distortion. Mysterious indeed.

Man, if I was in a dimly-lit room, and the TV was static, and the phone was suddenly talking to me threateningly whilst also ringing ocassionally, i'd be proper spooked.

This was such a "holy crap!" moment.

My back was all cold when i turned off the phone.

hear icarus and deadalus. sounds more like deadalus.

i think it's bob page using something to distort his voice. it doesn't sound like icarus, and i don't know why icarus would distort its voice like that. and the things its saying sound a lot like page's enthusiastic rants about how he'll be omnipotent and stuff.

I'm assuming it's Icarus, but really I don't know.

I remember the first time the phone rang that I was close enough to answere. Picking up the phone was instantly regrettable.

How did you use the phone? Whenever I try to use a phone, it just gives me the generic phone can't be used message, even if it is ringing.

This freaked me out the first time. How the phone starts ringing only as soon as you enter the room... Guh. It's the only phone in the game I actually checked.
