Does Adam Smasher have any sort of active connection to the internet as part of his setup? Honestly not super familiar with the cyberpunk lore. But with GITS cyber attacks are a huge threat in combat and if Adam doesn't have a means to take himself completely offline, the Major could potentially just hack his systems and render him catatonic that way.

Remember when in the anime Batou was ragging on the major for keeping her standard female model body instead of just opting for the strongest possible frame, & in response the major just insta-hacks Batou's body & makes him punch his oun lights out.

While I agree that The Major would win, I think her netrunner capabilities would be vitally important for that win, like, without that I think she probably loses more often than she wins. I also disagree on the skill difference, Adam Smasher has something like 80 years of experience as a killer. He's called the Legend Killer for a reason, he's the Cyberpunk equivalent of, "rocks fall, everybody dies".

Smasher does not have a Sandevistan. He even calls David's military one rudimentary. If I remember correctly, he has a Kerenzikov, which is a constant time-slow too, according to the TTRPG.

About the hacking, smasher has top tier self-ICE.

I feel like, firstly, Kusanagi would need a way bigger gun, seeing how Smasher just shrugs off LMG rounds in the anime. Second, she should not rely on her invisibility because Smasher surely has some sort of thermo sight or similar.

I feel like Kusanagi can win this with a bit of prep, and if she goes for a fast kill, but any surprises or a drawn-out fight, I feel like go to smasher.

Imagine the tank fight in the first GitS movie but with two people.

Smasher is a normal fish in a small pond. His main advantage is his reputation which enables him to set the pace of the fights he gets into. Take the initiative away like V does in the assault on Arasaka and he ends up being surprisingly simple to deal with.

I doubt any of the firepower the major brings could actually affect smasher. V only wins because they had help from alt shutting down security systems and a metric ton of plot armor

Cuz if it's post puppetmaster, there's zero chance any of Smasher's protection could stop her from just making him rip his own head off like a fly

I feel like this is very much a 'Do they get ANY prep?' scenario.
Like if it's just Kusanagi tossed into a ring with her police pistol, I kinda see it going a bit like when she fights things like the mech suits in Stand Alone Complex season 1. She could keep pace with Smasher, but would be critically unable to land a killing blow with even her SMG most likely, and unless Ghost in the Shell hacks are on a completely different level across the board, I don't think she could zero Smasher through them alone, since he does have some significant defenses (though I know in at least Red, a Netrunner is the best way to soften him up a bit).

Now one thing I will point out, is that while Smasher has enhanced optics, I remember a point in the manga, and also one SAC where different groups tried to use both ultra high fidelity cameras, AND thermal imaging (respectively) to catch Section 9 while they were cloaked, and neither worked. The Major has basically a max level, basically perfect cloaking, provided she doesn't take damage.

And even if Smasher has optics good enough to detect Kusanagi, the Major is notorious for hacking visual systems. I would imagine that if she's specifically trying to hinder Smasher's vision, she could at least accomplish that much and hide. From there it's primarily a question of if she can escape before Smasher can essentially sus her out by just blowing the whole place up.

In a situation where the Major knows she's gonna be fighting a big armored dude however, I see her basically running the engagement almost Batman v Superman style. Probably preparing some targeted infiltration software to slow him down and disable as many pieces of cyberware as possible, making him able to do little more than lug himself around and maybe fire his primary weapon. Only when she knows her cyberattacks have had time to crack through every layer they possibly can will she pop in with an anti-material sniper and dome shot him until he's nothing but a headless Dragoon suit.

The Major's most likely loss condition is literally if Smasher just shows up out of the blue and corner's her after damaging her thermoptic layer. In that case, she can maybe delay the inevitable with some on the fly hacks, but is probably cooked unless she gets her usual Batou plot armor boost. lol

Smasher isn’t that good at hacking

Yeah sure the major has good reflexes but she can’t move as fast as smasher with his sandevistan, doesn’t have nearly as much firepower as him like a damn rocket launcher and wrist mounted mini - gun. As well as strength the shit you see Adam smasher do to people like David is miles ahead of when the major tries to rip the top of a tank off and her arms end up coming off. Also if Alt Cunningham wasn’t able to take care of smasher through hacking I doubt that the major would be able to.

I agree that the Major can win, but she would need prep time without question. Assuming she has it, the next things would either be a way bigger gun, or an insulating suit to absorb the neural damage from Smasher's ICE protocols.

I don't know. Technology in CP universe looks like more advanced than those in GitS universe, judging how insane is the destructive power of the military tier cybernetics in CP, but it's just my impression.

Major Kusanagi has little to no survival instinct. If she had to kill smasher I think she would just put a grenade in her mouth, pull the pin and give Smasher a little smooch. Her ghost lives in the net, she can take on any body she wants, it's just that she prefers a particular model.
