Longplay of The Sims 2

I re-did this video and improved it by... 12 hours. I don't want to get into the dozen of things that were wrong with the old upload but boy do I feel glad it's been replaced now.. Moreover, playing this game was a real treat. Aside from the obvious differences between Sims 1 and Sims 2, perhaps the biggest gameplay change is the ability to move your character with the joystick! This is an absolute game changer as it made the gameplay feel very engaging. Metaverse-like almost lol.

This video covers the entire story mode (+ bonus chapters). The story mode consists of several areas which you must visit and complete objectives at for both your sim and the other sims. You don't need to get married and have children in this game, although there's a marriage objective for another sim during the HMS Amore chapter. The game however does want you to get the best job position in the career you've chosen so you'll have to work on raising your skills once again.

Overall, the difficulty proves to be really easy compared to Sims 1. There's absolutely no need to exploit certain mechanics to get the upper hand (i.e. drinking massive amounts of espresso rather than going to bed or electrocuting yourself to wake yourself up). Not only will you find out that being able to control your character with the joystick is far more efficient, you'll also quickly discover that Sims aren't as needy in this version. You can go a few days without socializing. You can go one day eating just a snack for breakfast. You can abruptly pull your SIms out of bed without them getting angry and frustrated. Did you hate making friends in the Sims games? Well that's gotten a lot easier now too.

I just don't really have anything bad to say about this game. The only thing that perhaps bothered me was not being able to copy a floor tile or wallpaper in the "build menu". If you were to add an extra room to your house you'd have to carefully go through the dozen pages of wallpapers to find the one that matches the rest of the building rather than being able to "sample" something like in the PC games.... you see how minor that is? Other than that I'd say the game is quite perfect. It's obviously not as expansive as Sims 3 and 4, but that's not the point.

I guess the best part of all this is that the console version doesn't replace the PC version nor vice versa. They're both unique in their own way. Whilst this was a really fun experience to play through, I'd likely never touch it again.. whereas the PC version is one you can easily sink hundreds of hours in because it focuses a lot more on customization and creativity. Ofcourse the console version also has a free play mode, but the things that the PC mode is known to be good at are precisely the things that don't work as well when playing with a joystick.

Lastly.. the bonus chapters in this game aren't very exciting. None of these have any objectives for your main sim and for that reason it just feels like a waste of time because you don't get to use these sims anywhere else in the game. The worst bonus chapter being The Orbit Room, where I spent nearly two hours trying to get this sim his skills up and helping him acquire the best job position in his career, only to then move onto the next chapter and never see him again.

Not even the sequel sequel and the sequel sequel sequel could beat The Sims original sequel

I played some the sims games but this was my favorite, literally the game of my childhood.
