Diablo 2 defence works with the hit and miss concept aswell. The higher the defence, the less likely it is that you will be hit.

Didn't realise how much better BG3 looks even though Original Sin 2 is not an ugly game imo

I can not tell you how much I would love to see Larian take over the Fallout IP and return it to the OG CRPG style. So many things they have done would absolutely translate perfectly into that world.

i just replayed divinity 2 this week, i would say gameplay wise, divinity 2 feels more free and fun , the constant sleeping and going to camp really hinders the flow in bg3 especially since my computer isnt up to par and it makes everything feel clunky. Story wise, i like the divinity 2 main story better but i like the side quest in bg3 better. But obviously graphics and animations and companion romances in bg3 is something thats really amazing, but the freedom feels more satisfying in divinity 2. I would say both are great really.

You're right, that's how AC works, but at the table I would often say for a Paladin wearing armor for example that the hit was deflected.

They should make BG3 more like DnD, like making shove an action, and removing bonus action from jump.

Baldur's gate combat takes some getting used to and I agree that the absolute basic building blocks are somewhat stronger in DOS II, but overall BG3 combat felt better to me, because there's so much you can do and so many ways to approach fights with the same set of characters. In DOS III it often felt like I was using my tried and tested tricks and combos in most encounters, and while there are some like that in BG3 as well, it's a lot more varied. As I picked up on the various ways abilities, items and the environment (which was already good in DOS II but they stepped it up a notch) can work together, I fell in love it. But now I wanna go back and play DOS II again.

divinity combat its better and more plentiful imo, but everything else bg3 its a more immersive experience from characters to world building to weird quirky stuff.

On the topic of "blocking damage" vs "being missed"... D&D combines both of those ideas into just "miss".
You can have high AC with thick heavy armor, or adroit agility, either way. At a tabletop, if you get missed by way of robust armor protection, the DM would say it "glances off your armor".
A "miss" in D&D does not mean you weren't "struck", it just means the attack didn't "connect" and do the 'owie-part'.

IMO Baldur's Gate 3 is a better game overall, but BG3 is built on top of the already-great Divinity: Original Sin 2 so it was able to benefit from that structure and build on top of it. BG3 only exists as it does because of how good DOS2 already was, and they were able to improve on that recipe to make an all-time great RPG.

The 2 main things I think make BG3 notably better than DOS2 are:
1. The game being built on DnD 5e rules means that the gameplay is structured in a way familiar to most players, but also means there are far more external tools available right away to help new players get started and familiar with the world.
2. The story is far better organized than DOSII. They refined how they communicate goals and interactions for the players to make the game easier to navigate without over-simplifying it and letting players make discoveries on their own still.
