I like your definition of minimalism. You don't have to have to look like everyone else or some narrow definition. For me in some ways, it's more about simplicity and practicality. For example, I have multiple types and pairs of scissors. 2 pairs in the kitchen, one in my yarn bag, one with my papercrafts, one with my sewing, and 2 in my desk. I use them all on a regular basis, and it would be more timeconsuming for me to find the one pair of scissors if that's all that I had.

Your channel is amazing! Thank you for the hard work you put into your content. It is so helpful and inspiring. You motivated me so many times to declutter, but more importantly, to change my perspective on homemaking. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Hi Shannon, wonderful video! I like your advice on minimalism and how you share an important note: minimalism is specific to you/your family! Such great inspiration! Another channel I've gained inspiration from is Canna Campbell's channel SugarMamma TV. You should check her channel out, I think you would like tips as well! Thanks again for sharing your family minimalist journey! I'm looking forward to your future uploads!

Awesome video, finally someone with kids to talk about minimalism 🤗 I would just add that it would be better to include children in toy decluttering, instead of doing it behind their back. That gives them sense of control and teaches them that toys are just stuff - temporary and replaceable. Also, considering presents (especially for kids): experiences over toys.

So glad you keep extra cups so you don't have to buy plastic cups.. I find most American families have only a few and then say they buy plastic cups and plates etc. When people come!... That is a waist of money and worse still terrible for the environment... I really find this "buy and bin" approach not good for a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to live!

Great that you also don't do overkill with out of school activities.

Great video x

I have been decluttering for 3 years.. And am on round 3. Each time getting rid of more.. Especially the personal memorabilia stuff (Swedish Death clean approach helps in this category) ... But being in a divorce with kids, a job and suffering from burnout and depression, it is a struggle to find time and/or energy.. So after the initial main decluttering which also involved separating my now ex manns stuff from my stuff (after 18yrs together) I am taking my time.. I still find stuff I just don't want to get rid of... Because the more simplify things become, the more time I have to do things I enjoy eg.. DIY and crafting... So I am glad I didn't get rid of those in the first year decluttering (when due to the situation) , I didn't have time for DIY and crafting.. Now I do... And I am not wasting money (I don't have as a single mum) on supplies and I can enjoy recycling and upcycling stuff because I didn't throw it away in first decluttering session 3 yrs ago..which means I also did not add to landfill back then!.... In my approach to minimalism.. I add the question "is this something that I would use and enjoy right now if I didn't have to spend time on eg sorting stuff for my divorce, recovering due to my illness?" .. If the answer is yes.. I keep it.. And organize, box and label it and put it in storage in my attic (could use basement or garage if you have that).. I am so happy I used this approach... Now.. I have more time, energy and head room I am enjoying DIY and crafting again and I just used wooden shelves I bought 22 yrs ago to make a headboard for my bed.. And now I am upcycling a coffee table I don't want anymore...

I am glad I didn't use the 20/20 rule.. Sometimes minimalizing your stuff just means being honest with yourself about what you realistically will do with the stuff if you keep it a bit longer!... It is so true that minimalism is different for everyone!

I love your take on minimalism. I have been heading towards being minimal for a few years. Gradually decluttering. I saved a lot of money by not bringing more into our home and also selling unwanted items. We managed to save for a 6 week holiday in Europe which we packed as minimal as possible. 2 suitcases for 2 adults, 2 teens and an 8 yo for 6 weeks. We spent our money on experiences instead of souvenirs. We never could have done it unless we started this journey.

I agree with everything you said. Minimalism is having just enough to be,happy, healthy, and whole, and that looks different for every person and family. It's when you reach that moment of "ahhh, this is much better," that you realize it's right and wish you had done it sooner.

I am glad to see you including Joshua Becker's channel. He's one of my favorite family minimalism advocates. Comparison is an enemy to many life endeavors so yes do your own things and ignore those naysayers. We have been living in a very small space and that has inspired me to tackle life with an extreme minimalist measure and for that I am forever grateful. We will be moving back into a regular house soon and I can't wait to re-establish many good habits we have experienced in the small space living. Love seeing your mom and you interacted in the videos. That will be a precious memory one day.

I decluttered slow and steady as well for about a year and a half. I'm still amazed at how much stuff we had. even last night I was in our laundry room and grabbed 2 pairs of shoes I know I don't wear and put them in the donate pile. it's made me think twice before bringing anything else into the house.

I have been on the declutter bandwagon for at least a year now. I can't claim to be minimal, because as you know, I can never be. But it's interesting how many times I have decluttered my office and still it's full of stuff. I could fill a room with all the furniture, and boxes of papers and photos and stuff, and still I'm tripping over things. They must grow! I did remove three little containers from my desktop this week with were full of pens and pencils and sticky notes pads and business cards. All that stuff went into a desk drawer and into the trash and now I don't have three metal boxes on top of my desk and it's so nice. Bottom line, you are never done!! Good job Shannon. Love MOM

Such a nice video, Shannon! You can feel the calm through it!
As a Non-American it's sometimes funny to see, that Americans call a lifestyle "Minimalism", that is considered totally "normal" in other parts of the world, like owning just one TV.

I've been a minimalist for 3 years and I'm still amazed to come across things that I don't use often enough to be keeping; a sofa pillow that while attractive, has a rough texture I don't like, a tote bag, a basket for dog toys (we just had to have our old dog euthanized, and I took all her bowls, beds flea shampoo, etc. to Goodwill, but forgot the basket) special English place mats for hot plates seldom actually used. So it's always an ongoing process as you look at things with an eye to only keep what you use or truly love.
