I really like thinking that the first undead is the boss that you fight right before Alice. Instead of using magic, he's just extremely tough and has an unshakable will to protect his friend no matter what.

Just realized the implications of this. "no other kids in the village to play with" but there's a lot of dessicated corpses just lying around. Enough for her to make "a lot of boney friends." fun fact: in Pathfinder 1e, there is a class that is basically exactly this: the White Necromancer - a non-evil necromancer that doesn't use control magic, and instead uses a form of diplomacy to befriend undead.
